No, don't just trash it. Use the uninstaller if you're going to try an uninstall/reinstall: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html

Have you tried it with CC 2015? I wonder if it's a specific issue to either CC 2014, Mac OS 10.8.5, or a combination of them both.

I followed your instructions, but no luck. Still can't open JPEGS or Raw. Still can't open Camera Raw in preferences.

Can I just drag the whole program to the trash and reinstall everything? What link would that be?

Hmm something is very wrong then. Try this: Quit Photoshop. Then install Camera Raw 9.5 using the standalone installer here: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html

Restart Photoshop after you install. Does it work correctly?

I tried your suggestion, but it didn't help. Got error messages for JPEGS and RAW.

Can you try this? Launch Photoshop while holding down the shift key. When it asks if you want to skip loading third-party plug-ins, click [Yes]. Try opening a JPEG. Does it work correctly?

I can't check my Camera Raw Prefernces.  Error message:   Could not complete the Camera Raw command because the file was not found.

In these other threads, they point to a damaged install: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/cannot-open-images-with-latest-photoshop-2014...

And loading multiple versions, including old versions, of plug-ins: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/could_not_complete_your_request_because_the_f...

System Info would definitely help us troubleshooting this for you.

Do you have Camera Raw set to Open JPEG Files? (see my post above about preference settings for Camera Raw)

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Directions for sharing your system info from Photoshop:

Since updating PS CC 2014, yesterday, I can no longer open any JPEGs or Raw files. I get an message saying "Could not complete your request because the file was not found." (for JPEGS)

I get a message saying "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." (for RAW files)

I am able to open PSD and PNG files, but if I flatten and save as a JPEG, I get the same error message when trying to open them. I restarted my computer, and trashed the Photoshop preferences before opening, but still have the same problem.

Next, I tried opening the same files in PS CS5, and they opened normally. This tells me that Something has gone wrong in the CC 2014 update. I'm freaking out!  Been using Photoshop since 1995 and never encountered this problem!
