Hello, I worked on a project on Character Animator.

I wanted to secure my working hours using google drive.

Everything was going very well during his last weeks. But in the morning I open Character Animator and I get a message: "Cannot open project << F: //ANIMA/.../Ch Data / repo.noindex / >> If it is on a server, copy it to a local disk and open it from from this location. " I have weeks of work on this project. Please do you have a solution for me? I beg you!

Hello!
I have the same problem:
I copied all my Character Animator files into Dropbox

Today I tried to copy back to my Hard Disk but every time I try to open it, the error message appears.

Any solution, please?

Thanks

Hi,

The CA project I am working on loses triggers over time and I open the project to find that I have question marks on some of them and hours of animation is down the drain. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I'm currently experiencing a similar issue... the following is transcribed from my original post on the Ch Support Forum just now (https://community.adobe.com/t5/character-animator-discussions/google-drive-for-desktop-issue-with-ch-files/td-p/12369653), hence the generalised description of problem without ref to the existing feedback here.

Hi,

I've just recently switched from Google Drive's 'Backup & Sync' to its new incarnation 'Google Drive for Desktop'. Unfortunately the switch appears to have thrown up a major problem. Not one of Ch's making, it should be noted, but I was wondering if there's an awareness of it and maybe a workaround?

THE ISSUE
Despite the fact that the files I'm working on are using Google Drive's 'available offline' feature... i.e. being synced on Google Drive in the cloud and also existing locally on my hard drive... whenever I try and open one of my Ch projects (the one shown here being 'AeroFeedback02_Ch00') I get the following error message (attached 01.png)

I know this is specifically a Google Drive problem rather than a Ch one, per se, but I just wondered if maybe anyone else had experienced similar and found a fix?

Oh, also, if I do as advised by the onscreen message, and copy the file, or any other similar Ch file, to (another part of) my local hard drive, it's still un-openable. I get the following thrown up (attached 02.png)

Additionally, I've just discovered through running a couple of tests, that any new Ch files that are created and saved to the local/cloud-synced Google Drive aren't re-openable once they've been closed. That original error message comes up.

Hope someone can help 🙂

Was this problem resolved? I have had the same issue (Mac / Big Sur). Copied the project onto a local drive but the problem persists.

Many thanks, Jonnie

Thank you it's great to hear from you, I would share my work with you. Are you a developer working at Adobe?

Knowing that your project was recovered and you're happy is enough. Use the product, let us know the issues you run into (I define "issue" as anything that makes the product less than a joy to use) and make cool things! My team loves seeing the amazing creations of our customers. It's very rewarding.

Also, have a great weekend!

New projects in the 4.0 version (either brand new or if you choose "Save As" to copy an existing project into new one) actually use an updated file format that should tend to be more resilient to this sort of thing.
