205 Error when launching 3D Painter

Sorry for the long incoming post but I'm losing my rag with this one...

So, on Windows 11, Substance Painter throws me the 205 error box when launching and despite having multiple 2 hour+ screen shares with Adobe's support team, the only solution they have for me is to create a new user profile on Windows and use that instead. Using a new profile is not a viable solution for me (I can go into more detail on this if required) but I'm basically wanting to rule this out as an option.

The annoying thing is that I have two other applications on CC (Substance Sampler and Substance Designer) which both work fine, it is only Painter that is having the issue.

My administrator account (separate from the one having the issue) can launch Substance Painter just fine, but it's a really inefficient workflow for me to have to switch over to that account whenever I need to texture something.

As I mentioned I've been on over 4 hours of screen share calls with Adobe where they have tried all the different troubleshooting methods but still don't have a fix for me. Strange though that they never once asked to see any log files or anything like that to help diagnose the issue - simply told me that there's an issue with my Windows User Account and that I shouldn't use it any more.

This would make a bit of sense I guess, if it weren't for the fact that I have no issues with ANY other programs and don't even have issues with 2 other Adobe Subtance apps on the same user.

I'm posting here in the hopes that there's someone with more technical know-how and maybe more experience with Windows specific issues than the Adobe team have.

At this point no suggestion is stupid so if you have an idea, PLEASE throw it my way.

Things that I have tried:

  • Logging out of CC and back into CC
  • Reinstalling the whole Adobe ecosystem from the administrator account
  • Clearing/resetting all the credential related stuff (credential manager clearing keys, restarting the service, clearing certificates etc etc)
  • Disabled all firewalls
  • Added specific rules for all Adobe URLs to both Windows firewall and my ESET Antivrius firewall
  • Set the correct read/write permissions for all of the Adobe folders for my user

Thanks in advance,

Karl

Hi Cyril,

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

I have the log file but not sure how best to show it - would you like it just posting straight into a reply? I don't see any way to attach it.

Thanks for the link regarding clearing the credentials, but yes I have already tried that method 🙂

Thanks,

Karl

Hi Karl,

I'm afraid I won't be the best person in order to help with this issue considering I'm a QA Artist, and that the error 205 is usually related to the Creative Cloud, but I'll do my best to find a solution.

First of all, I'd like to see your log, maybe we are indeed missing something (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Substance 3D Painter).

Secondally, I'll check with the rest of the team if someone is familiar with the error.

Lastely, I'm pretty sure it's already done, but you can try to follow the mentionned steps in here.

Best regards,
