As said before, I get the frustration, but this seems really off topic considering this thread.

Steam licenses, in my opinion, are a really good oportunity for people who don't appreciate the creative cloud. It's a one time fee, lifelong license and no Adobe service is needed. This was the business model of most applications before the "subscription" model that many people hate. Not having a lifetime license + lifetime updates seems fair to me.

So once again, I get the "Adobe frustration", but complaining about it on a thread dedicated to Steam licenses feels a bit off topic to me.

Its not Fair. Not at all and the only reason you say that is because your work for adobe. Face it Adobe is a for profit company its not a for User Company. Adobe has a horrible reputation and it is tarnished for eternity. And With the advent of AI, Software like substance can be made by much smaller teams. I among probably everyone else would be happy for Adobe to fail as a company because in my opinion it would serves them right. Corporations like adobe feed off of cornering a market sector raising the prices sky high so nobody can compete then raising the price of the entry fee. You think Adobe would be okay with making a few million dollars no they want to make ALL the money. That s not fare thats the opposite of fare its GREED and its Tyrannical. The only thing that could save Adobe is to do a complete 180 and rethink there business model. We need small mom and pop joints to be revived and I hope humanity is restored but what can you say to a company that makes 25 bllion dollars a year? They hold all the cards and the power?

Hi Derrick,

I honestly understand the frustration, but to be fair, the Substance Suite worked that way even before Adobe. On top of that, Substance are probably the only applications from our software with life licenses (with Steam), and free licenses for students and teachers.

Anyway, we are glad to hear the opinion of everyone using our applications, but please let's try to remain polite in this thread.

Translation.. adobe want more money so they lock you out of new updates. On top of that they lock their new files and don't allow them to be backwards compatible with older versions.

Hi @Eightng32245178h2hr,

Steam licenses are permanent licenses. It means that you'll have access to Substance 3D Painter for life, but the updates are only available for the year of buying (which is 2022 in your case). The 9.0.0 has been released in 2023, therefore you don't have access to the latest updates.

If you want to always keep Substance 3D Painter updated through the years, you can Subscribe to the Adobe Substance 3D collection, or check for our Educational license, as long as you're a student or a teacher.

Best regards,
