Latest update (16th June, Steam version) broke compatibility with my own smart materials

I have been using Substance Painter since 2015 and never had issues, since the latest update on Steam though (16th June) many of my own smart materials are unusable.

Painter starts reading them and generating thumbnails and at some point it stops and will hang in there forever. And I mean forever, I have left it running for the whole night and nothing, it won't read that specific materials. I must delete it, crash the tool and go on until the next material it doesn' like. Crash, move/delete the material, move on.

All this just to manage to have the bare minimum of materials and tools I normally  use to work.

Not to mention that even when it works it takes forever to load materials with thumbnails already generated, so all this back and forth means hours before I can even start working.

Before I dived into figuring out this problem, this happened also while I was working and all its hanging in generating thumbnails meant no possibility at all to save my work, so whenever this happened as I was working I lost everything I had done up to that moment.

My last week of work has been hell.

I have tried every suggestion I found in the forums.

I assigned it more space for thumbs, everything is on a fast SSD.

I have trimmed my shelves, divided them up, deleted a lot of stuff (note, all stuff I could use no problem before June 16).

I'll be switching back to Substance 7.1.1 for my next projects, even though it keeps complaining about drivers issues, because at least I can work with it, like I have done since 2015.

Most of my smart-materials are complex and consist of many, many layers + masks, but this has never, never been a problem. I have never had to delete one of my own materials for compatibility issues in all this time.

Note, I never update a took while in the middle of a project, but unfortunately with Steam I haven't found a way to prevent updates.

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

The attached screenshot show how it will hang in there forever until I remove the materials it is unable to load.

Thanks,

AS

I'm having the same issue, can't work anymore at all.
Painter will start generating thumbnails perfectly fine, and 30 seconds or so will just stop and Painter will be dead.
Won't save the project anymore, Iray won't work, can't add new materials, nothing...
Juding by the comments in the Steam forums, it's not an issue everybody has, but seems to affect enough people.

    Hi,

I'm one of the QA on Painter, I'm currently investigating the issue. I was able to reproduce your issue only once and solved the issue by reloading my shelves by removing, updating Painter, and then reloading my shelf.
This is not normal behavior! I would like to find the source of your problem, would you be able to share some of your shelves with me through my email (sainteca@adobe.com) by onedrive or some other cloud storage?
Your log doesn't provide any information on what is going wrong, unfortunately.

Be sure that we're looking at this issue as a critical one,

    Thank you,
    Kind Regards,

    Geoffroy SC
