Latest update (16th June, Steam version) broke compatibility with my own smart materials

I have been using Substance Painter since 2015 and never had issues, since the latest update on Steam though (16th June) many of my own smart materials are unusable.
Painter starts reading them and generating thumbnails and at some point it stops and will hang in there forever. And I mean forever, I have left it running for the whole night and nothing, it won't read that specific materials. I must delete it, crash the tool and go on until the next material it doesn' like. Crash, move/delete the material, move on.
All this just to manage to have the bare minimum of materials and tools I normally use to work.
Not to mention that even when it works it takes forever to load materials with thumbnails already generated, so all this back and forth means hours before I can even start working.
Before I dived into figuring out this problem, this happened also while I was working and all its hanging in generating thumbnails meant no possibility at all to save my work, so whenever this happened as I was working I lost everything I had done up to that moment.
My last week of work has been hell.
I have tried every suggestion I found in the forums.
I assigned it more space for thumbs, everything is on a fast SSD.
I have trimmed my shelves, divided them up, deleted a lot of stuff (note, all stuff I could use no problem before June 16).
I'll be switching back to Substance 7.1.1 for my next projects, even though it keeps complaining about drivers issues, because at least I can work with it, like I have done since 2015.
Most of my smart-materials are complex and consist of many, many layers + masks, but this has never, never been a problem. I have never had to delete one of my own materials for compatibility issues in all this time.
Note, I never update a took while in the middle of a project, but unfortunately with Steam I haven't found a way to prevent updates.
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.
The attached screenshot show how it will hang in there forever until I remove the materials it is unable to load.
Thanks,
AS
