Projection tool / stencil low resolution in new versions

Anybody know how to fix extremly low res of the preview stencil when using projection brush/tool ?

It wasnt like this in older versions

Here a random example, the text becomes almost illegible, and it gets worse the higher  the resolution of the projection, sometimes turning into just blocks of color.

I have no problems reproducing it since it happens 100% of the time, just take any random 4k image, drag it to the color input and zoom in, you will notice that no matter what is the resolution  of the input image the preview is limited to one resolution, 720p maybe or something pretty low. The problem is hard to notice if you dont zoom in since the semi transparency might make it seem like the texture is just blurry, but the moment you zoom in you will notice the pixelizations. I think the preview resolution is just capped, and thats the problem.

Problem reproduced on a rtx4070ti super and rtx3060.

I do a lot of projection painting of decals, textures and the like, this bug forces me to cut them up into smaller parts, which really bloats the number of textures i work with up to even a 100, where i cant even remember what layer what images was where.

You're right, this is an issue that has been reported by different users. I just wanted to make sure the problem was still limited to the preview. Unfortunately, this is a bug that we can't reproduce at the moment. We're still investigating how to trigger this low res preview.

So are you using a custom resource? What's your hardware specifications? Is there something unusual that needs to be mentioned in your workflow?

The issue was introduced with 11.1.0. Considering we did major changes to core system of Painter (Baking API and switch from OpenGL to Vulkan), we're now facing a bit more bugs than usual.

Hopefully We've started working on solutions and a 11.1.1 has already been released and two more minor updates will come. Surely this bug will be fixed with one of those two minors, but we still need to find how to trigger it.

I did a rollback to 11.0.2 and it works fine in that one.

I also asked few people who use painter and every person reported the same problem.

So issue was introduced in eather 11.0.3 or 11.1.0.

Hello @sebastians47718172,

Just to be clear, it's only the preview that is low res right? Once projected, the texture looks as it should?

Let me know.

Yes, the preview is low res, seems to be limited to some very low resolution, so the higher the source image resolution and more you zoom in the less readable the image becomes, eventually turning into bunch of pixels.

Yet after projection its full res, but the low ress make lining up the prejection position very hard, sometimes impossible as tiny detail dissapear.
