SP 2024 ( Steam )

Hi,

So I purchased Substance Painter 2024 from Steam a few days ago. I only noticed today ( never read the features on the product store page ) that i am not eligible for any updates after the end of this month. So what about existing known issues/bugs with the current version i have,  or hotfixes applicable to the current version i have? Do I basically have 29 days left in hope that any updates dropping from Adobe to fix those will come in time before the end of the month, or else be bang out of luck to get any more "support/fixes" for the version I'm on ? . If so, that's just insane to basically grant a month of support/updates ( i think it should rather be 12 months from purchase date ).

Had I known this, I'd probably have refunded the purchase, but I can't as I've now used it for more than 2 hrs.

Thanks

2024 is running out quickly, are there any SP2024 updates pending for this year ? You mentioned at least another one before the end of the year.

I had to ask, but unfortunately no. We don't have any "update" offer.

    Hi Cyril

I don't have any major issues at the moment, partly because i have not used it for long enough, or even used all the features yet, but I did have a few crashes to desktop during my 9hr use thus far. I was not aware that the Steam licence worked this way, and in hindsight, I guess i would have known, had I read the product page on Steam before I purchased it, so that one is on me. I just assumed that the version I'm on will at least get updates for that version ( i.e until the next version is released )

Never the less I have 2024 now which is fine. I do hate subscription based software with a passion, hence why i bought the steam edition so that I have a perpetual licence for it even though i apparently dont even own that either according to Steam. It seems these days we just keep paying, but never own anything, which is just the sad reality of software these days be honest.

So, i guess my next question is - if a new version of Substance Painter comes out, do you perhaps know if Steam will have an upgrade option at a reduced price in future, or will I need to buy a new full 2025 perpetual licence again ?

    Regards

    Hi @pdeswardt,

This is indeed how Steam licenses work and that's why it's named Painter 2024 : you'll only have the updates of 2024. December is definitely not the best moment to buy the current Steam version of Substance.

Now I can assure you there will be at least another bugfix until the end of the current year.

What are the problems that bother you with the current version?

    Let me know.
