Substance Painter causes my laptop to freeze completely

Over the past couple of months, I have had an issue where Substance Painter will totally freeze my laptop when trying to do anything in it, forcing me to hard-shut down my laptop. I'm pretty sure this is not an issue with my laptop per se, because it used to run Substance Painter quite comfortably and I have been able to use many other intensive applications without any issue. This is an issue that occurs with every version, not just recent ones either, as I downgraded to the earliest version my subscription would allow and the issue still occurs.

 

I have tried disabling a number of options in Substance settings and these have had no effect.

I had no idea that I was under, I had assumed that since this was a gaming laptop I had enough RAM to begin with. Having said that, I have 3 spare slots so I can expand the memory. Thank you for letting me know.

Hello @26852587 and thank you for all the details.

 

First of all, your laptop is under the minimum requirements for running Substance 3D Painter and unfortunately, even if it did run Substance Painter comfortably at a certain time, there are a lot of chances the issue comes from there.

 

With that being said, you can always make sure the software is running on the NVIDIA GPU and not the integrated one. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, in the left tree view, select 3D Settings > Manage 3D settings. In the main view, switch to the Program Settings tab, select 'Adobe Substance 3D Painter' in the list and turn off the auto selection for the NVIDIA GPU.

 

 

I am not sure this will help, but that worths a try.
