Substance Painter crashes seconds into Rendering/Iray mode

Hi all, my problem is as described in the title. I could use the Rendering mode just fine 2 months prior, but now 2 seconds after entering it, my entire laptop shuts down abruptly, When reopened, the Substance file becomes corrupted with only the file name being saved and nothing else. I cannot figure out what the problem may be so here are a list of my setup & specs that might be helpful:

1. I have a second Dell monitor HDMI port and a portable hard drive connected

2. intel core i7 and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080

3. up to date NVMe SAMSUNG MZVLB1T0 drive

4. I don't hear any weird sounds coming from my laptop Asus Rog Zephyrus s17 gx701

Thank you for reading!

Hi again as an update,

I was not able to find the log file for some reason. I added Substance Painter as the app to use NVIDIA high performance GPU under graphics settings, same thing, it shuts down my laptop the moment it enters Iray rendering. My GPU (runnign only google chrome) is at around 54°C, not sure if this helps. I haven't tried using my GPU with any other rendering program other than playing Overwatch 2 which I don't observe performance issues like glitches, but upon entering a game it does go black screen for a split second. Sorry for the very scattered information, just trying to pin down whether or not my GPU might be giving up, I am going to give it one last try and roll my system back to Windows 10 tomorrow and see, I think that will be a sign that there is something up with the hardware.

Hi Cyril,

I responded twice with my log file attached but it seems that both times failed. For an update, I wiped out my laptop to reinstall Windows 11 system to see whether or not it is a software or hardware issue. I tested with samples that came installed with Substance Painter in 2 scenarios. 1 was when my device was not connected to a monitor through html, I opened the jade frog one and entered Iray rendering- did not crash/shut down my laptop but it glitched black to normal screen back and forth, the issue does not persists after I exit the mode. 2 was when my device was connected to a second monitor, I opened the dinner scene and it shut down my laptop right away upon entering Iray rendering. I will try to get you the logs after this reply, sorry for not getting back earlier.

Hi @Athame,

Thanks for the message.

Could you share a log file after such a crash? You'll find it in

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Substance 3D Painter

With a complete PC shut down, it probably won't have many info, but it's still worth to check.

I also advise you to make sure the GPU driver has the latest Studio update. The Iray rendering comes from NVIDIA, so it could very well be related to the GPU.

Best regards,
