Substance Painter File suddenly crashes when I set the textures to 2k. No issue like that before

Hello!

Ive been working in a Substance Painter file with no issues till recently. Whenever I wanna edit the file set to 2k, it crashes. It worked fine before, not sure what has changed. This issue doesnt happen when the file is set to 1k or below. I have a strong Razer Laptop with an RTX 4080 and have worked on very heavy files before (I work in Video games.)

I hope there is a solution to this as I need to export my file in 2k textures! I've attached the log.

Amazing, thank you so much for your help Cyril, this solved it! I didnt know this issue with the lowpoly mesh plane. Will definitely adjust this in future projects too to avoid it! 🙂

The problem is pretty simple actually. You have the exact setup Painter doesn't like. When you have a single Poly mesh with many brush strokes, Painter doesn't handle it pretty well and performances issues will occur.

I advise you to change your plane for a high poly one. This way, you'll keep the same UVs, but lose the poor performances. In your current project, go to

Edit > Project Configuration > Select the file > OK

I aslo advise you to uncheck the Auto-Unwrap and the Preserve strokes position on mesh. Please note that you can't CTRL+Z after reimporting, so make sure to save the project before.

On my end, I was able to change the Texture set resolution after reimporting, when I was forced to restart my computer with the single poly mesh.

Best regards,

Hey @Cyril Dellenbach !

The drivers are up to date and this is the only .spp file where this issue occurs. None of my other files have this.
I will send it to you! thanks a lot!

When a crash is really important, the crash window may not pop-up.

Considering the GPU driver is outdated, first thing I advise you to do is to update it. Quite often, the solution is as simple as that. Now I need more context. Does the crash only occur with this specific project or all your .SPP files? If it's a single project can you send it to me at cdellenbach@adobe.com ?

Let me know.

Hello Cyril!
Thank you for getting back, I really appreciate it.

The environment lighting is the default one actually and I am using the Alpha Blend material preview.
Regarding the Pop up, weirdly enough, I do not receive a pop up for this, which is odd. Is there any other way to report it to you guys?
Thanks again!

Hello @curly_1735 and thank you for the log file.

From what you're mentioning, I really doubt the issue comes from the hardware itself.

I know this a weird question, but which environment light are you using? Is this a custom resource? If not, do you receive a pop-up window when you're launching Painter after the crash? If so, I advise you to fill the crash report and let us your e-mail address, so we can contact you back. With a crash report we also receive multiple log files to inspect the problem in detail.
