Substance Painter is Crashing When Opening an FBX File (Log file attached)

When opening a particular FBX file and some others, substance painter will begin to load the scene then crash very shortly into the loading process. Initially, increasing my virtual memory from 12 GB to 16 GB seemed to allow me to open some additional files, but the one I want to open next will not load. It occaisonally makes it into the auto UV unwrapping stage but only makes it into single digit % completion before crashing (I would like to auto uv unwrap the model).

After increasing virtual memory to 256 GB, it still crashes and doesn't appear to utilize a noticable percentage of virtual memory when viewed in performance monitor when attempting to load the file (viewing % Page File utilization). This makes me think that virtual memory isn't the limiting factor.

Any information that could help me open my FBX file for texturing would be greatly appreaciated.

In case it might be useful for troubleshooting the issue, here are some details on my machine and Substance Painter install:

Substance Painter:

version 8.1.2 (up to date)

System:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X

Memory: 32 GB 3600 MHz G.Skill RipJaws

GPU: GIGABYTE RTX 3080 Ti 12GB

Graphics Driver: GeForce Game Ready Driver Version 516.4 (up to date)

SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 2 TB

Hello @DJ3762506423tt ,

As for Lee upthere, could you send me the .FBX and your log file (help > export log) at cdellenbach@adobe.com ? Please add a link to this thread in the e-mail, and let me know when it's done.

Hey Cyrillic, I'm having the same issue. Though it does it for about 5 or 6 of my files. I'm pretty pissed considering the software was $200 and it can't seem to figure out a simple file that has one prop with 400 faces on it. Yeah you read that right 400 max faces to paint and it act as if I put a file with 900,000. I need this issue resolved now and not 2 years later please

Hi Lee,

Thanks for sharing.

I understand the frustration, but I'm confident we will get to the bottom of this issue.

Do you have enough space left on your disk? Could you share your log (help > export log) and maybe the problematic .FBX file?

Let me know.

PS: Sorry Ben, we missed your message back in 2022.

I have just subscribed to the Substance suite and literally, the first thing I have done is try and load an FBX so I can edit it. Crashes every time. This is typical Adobe. I can't believe I fell for it again.
