P: After the new version "update” today — “Unexpected error opening catalog.”

“The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error.” Not just my main catalog. Every catalog, recent and older, and every backup.

This is what I'm looking for urgent help with.

It's far from the only problem. InDesign crashed hard on first launch of the update. Fonts spun in Adobe Fonts and wouldn't load. What an utter disaster you are lately Adobe.

Updates to the Adobe Photography Products were released yesterday and include a fix for this issue. Please install the December update, restart your system and verify you are no longer experiencing the issue. Thank you for your assistance in reporting, providing additional information and, most of all, for your patience.

Same problem occurred on my mac

- macOS version: 10.15.7

- LRC version: 10.0

I removed my previous category folder, lost everything, but it still doesn't work.

After two years on this machine without any issues, I can no longer open Lightroom Classic on my desktop. Other Adobe products open just fine. I keep getting the following error message:

Try Again doesn't work and I cannot choose a different catalog. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling without any change. I've rebooted my computer too without any luck.

I'm running it on an iMac with the following specs:

  Model Identifier: iMac19,1

  macOS Catalina, version 10.15.7

Processor Name: 6-Core Intel Core i5

  Processor Speed: 3.7 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 6

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 9 MB

  Memory: 64 GB

Any thoughts? I need to get up and running soon as I am "dead in the water" here.

I recently started another post without searching for this one, thanks Rikk for pointing me to this one.  I have a Dell XPS 9700 with a 2T ssd.  LC updated to ver 10.0 and was unusable.  Sometimes would start, and eventually crashed if I tried to import. Uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no luck.   Lots of chats with Adobe and a promise three days ago to have a team specialist call me, and of course nothing from anyone with that group.  I isolated it in my case to catalog problems.  What was happening was that when LC opened, it randomly went to different catalogs some of which are obviously corrupt.  I created a new catalog on the desktop, and set preferences to ask me every time which catalog, or use an updated version so I could choose the catalog I had created.  Works for me at the moment, but hardly a solution to such a major mess.  Wanted to pass it on in case it works for someone else.  Set a Default Catalog in Lightroom Classic CC- Instructions (teachucomp.com)

I have posted about this earlier but it was marked as CLOSED. It is far from SOLVED, though.

After upgrading macOS to Big Sur, I tried to upgrade LightRoom from 9 to 10 again. Apparently, it still breaks the catalog: After upgrading, I can browse my picture fine. However, when clicking on a thumbnail in people-view, it does not open the corresponding image. Instead, it shows the same picture independently of what I click on. Nothing changed compared to the previous try.

I am very worried that Adobe seems to break our catalogs when upgrading their product. Not happy.

Best regards,

Adrian
