P: After the new version "update” today — “Unexpected error opening catalog.”

“The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error.” Not just my main catalog. Every catalog, recent and older, and every backup.

This is what I'm looking for urgent help with.

It's far from the only problem. InDesign crashed hard on first launch of the update. Fonts spun in Adobe Fonts and wouldn't load. What an utter disaster you are lately Adobe.

Please let me know if there has been any solution to this problem...I also had to install the previous version in the hope that a definitive solution to the problem can be found.

For me, the problem happens only on my nearly new 2019 Mac Pro. Am continuing with LRc 9.4

The problem does NOT happen on my 2016 MacBook Pro - LRc10.0 works just fine.

Repeated, extensive Adobe support sessions have not been able to resolve the situation.

Although I know next to nothing about tech issues, does not seem to be a disk access/permissions issue as the problem persists with the catalog on the internal SSD, a SATA drive in enclosure, and an external portable drive.

What's weird is that I upgraded from 9.4 to 10. as soon as it was released. The 9.4 catalog converted and I ran LRc10 for perhaps 7-10 days w/o an issue. But immediately after rebooting the 2019 Mac Pro, the problem appeared (and persists to this day.

Jumping on the dog pile.

Is there something going on with this issue on iMacs?

My info:

  iMac 2019, 5K 27-inch

  macOS 10.15.7

  i9

  8GB RAM

  Radeon 580X

i just want to add my name to the list. The new v.10 catalogue will not open and I get the error message unless I close down and restart (or just restart). Not as bad a situation as many others here but still very annoying.

I'm not a Mac user, but use Finder to locate your recovered catalogue and double click it to open it in Lightroom.

If all else fails, ask Adobe if they can check your catalogue for errors.

In the catalogue select dialog, on the left is the catalogue file and on the right is the path to the folder containing the catalogue.

There have been a lot of reported problems in this thread with LrC 10 on the Mac getting the error you are seeing when trying to open the catalogue.

Since you just updated LrC, try uninstalling LrC 10 (keep your preferences) and reinstalling LrC 9.4, then see if your catalogue opens.

@anthony_blackett

Thank you!! How will I know if it’s the correct path? And how do I change it if not?
I was able to make a new one and it opened fine. But still no luck opening the recovered one. I did go back to the last version. But I also updated to Mac Big Sur yesterday too.

*Chelseakaufman Have you tried launching LrC with the Option key pressed to bring up the catalogue select dialog?

From the catalogue select dialog make sure that the current catalogue you are trying to open has the correct file path.

I would also check that you are able to create a new catalogue without encountering any errors.
