P: Can't Import video in LR 4.1

Lightroom 4.1RC 64bit won't import video. I tried different video formats. What's wrong?

I was getting this message: "there is a problem with the video file"

The video files were M-JPEG/AVI and H.264/MP4.
Seeing the advice above, I uninstalled DivX and rebooted.
This resolved the issue for me!

I also have the problem (Win 7 x64) with Nikon AVI video files.
The error message is: Video file doesn't contain any video frames.

Same for me: Canon S95 MOV files; show briefly in the import dialog, then not to be found again. Windows 7x64 pro. and Lightroom 4.1.

This set of complaints in this blog reflects pretty badly on Adobe's non-pixel software technical capabilities.

Adobe's marketing claims in pitching and selling Lightroom 4 said and says they support MOV files. Many people, it appears, took them at their word and in good faith. Now, with many complaining, Adobe says nothing.

When importing new video files to the LR4.1 (64-bit Windows 7) catalog, a few files fail to be imported with the following message: "There is a problem with the video file". The exact same video files can be imported to the LR3.6 (64-bit Windows 7) catalog without problems.

The LR4.1 error message fails to provide sufficient information to find a solution or a workaround. The files in question are all AVI format. The non-imported files play okay in Windows Media Player, but just a certain few are consistently failing to import. I understand that LR4 may need to be less forgiving of certain file problems in order to support its expanded video features, but, if so, it should tell us what these problems are or allow us to examine logs or provide diagnostic tests that will reveal sources of incompatibility with LR4 import operation.

Improved video capabilities in LR4 are very appealing to me....but NOT if they fail while giving error messages which are unhelpful.

I'm using lightroom 4.1, and it wont import video anymore. It has previously although its been very erratic both to import and play. Its not a file issue as ive tried at least 4 differnet formats that play elsewhere. Ive also removed previous imported video files in lightroom and tried to re-import. Gives same error "there is a problem with the video file (1). Have tried re-install and stopping dynamic link as mentioned in another post, but nothing makes any difference. Has anyone experienced the same and found a solution please. thanks

After much troubleshooting I solved my video import error in LR 4. I am running Windows 7 x64 and a parental filter called Net Nanny. the module cwalsp.dll (Net Nanny) was blocking Lightroom's dynamiclinkmanager.exe and dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe. I added application exceptions in Net Nanny and the videos import correctly now. I also reported the issue to Net Nanny. This was hard to find since Net Nanny didn't have a log of application blocks (just web blocks). Mike

I use Lightroom 4.0 french version. Impossible to import file with the import option. I can see the files I want to import in the specific import window. When I select "all photos" or "new photos" I can see them but when I click on "destination folders" nothing appears. And when I click on "import" the progression indicator appears but nothing happens. That's a great problem!

I also have the problem with no import from video files (mts or mov from a Lumix GF2) in Lightroom 4. A video file at the sd card disturbs also the import from photo files (raw and jpeg). The import stopps without message.I have tried all the things what are mentioned in any help forums but no result. In Lightroom 3 the import was ok.
I think Adobe should see in this immediately.

I think i have solved this. I think it was a tool named "Spyware Terminator". I uninstalled this and it works!
I then setted the firewall setting to normal behavior and resetted in Microsoft security essentials the dynamiclinkserver, and so on, settings. Then i tested this. All ok.
The files shown in the taskmanager (Adobe QT32 Server, dynamiclinkmediaserver and dynamiclinkmanager) are now stable while the import lasts. They close a short time after Lightroom is closed.
So it was not the firewall and also not my Microsoft security essentials.
I hope this will be helpfull.

Here is more detail that I posted on lightroomforums and in the Adobe support forum.

Here is my setup:

Local PC with lightroom installed. Core i7 3770k, 16gb RAM, GTX570 video card, Asrock z77 Extreme4 motherboard, Win7 64 bit, 120GB SSD for the installed apps and OS
Nas is a Synology Diskstation DS212 with 2x 1.5TB drives in RAID-1 connected via ethernet (CAT6) through my Linksys WRT-610N router.

I have about 25000+ pictures on my NAS taking up about 180gb of space. This includes probably 1000 video clips ranging from full length home movies that have been converted but also a lot of shorter clips taken from a cell phone, my T2i DSLR, my GoPro, or prior to all that a Canon SD800. Most of the video formats are in AVI or MOV.

Anyway, all my pictures import fine, but when I try to import videos, I can sometimes get a few to import, but then it runs forever and I get an error popup saying "There was a problem importing the video". Note that this is ONLY for existing media. Direct imports from my cameras work completely fine. All the videos I tried also play fine in other players (quicktime, WMP).

Yes, I do have Quicktime installed and it is updated. I have tried both Sync and Import (ignore duplicates) as well as try even just a single video file and I get the same issues.

INterestingly, the same time when import crashes on the videos, I can no longer play any videos that were previously improted. I get a "Error playing this file" pop up message. Usually before that happens, I can scrub across the video clip in Grid view and see the video play. It won't work in Loupe view however.

I have tried many things, including a 4 hour conversation with Adobe support with remote PC control and multiple restarts. WE tried:

1. Disabling all startup services and tasks
2. Disabling AVG anti virus
3. Creating a new profile
4. Creating a new Lightroom catalog
5. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Lightroom
6. Importing and working on videos from the desktop instead of the NAS
7. Deleting the Video Cache in preferences

And all have the identical issue. It might work for a bit, then stops.

The only way I can get vidoes to work again is CTRL-ALT-DEL to Task Manager, killing the two processes dynamiclinkmediaserver and dynamiclinkmediamanager, and then restarting lightroom. I get a few minutes of operation and then it doesn't work again.

When we tried earlier with disabling everything and creating a new profile, I did have some success for a while, but after I got up to over 3000 pics it started failing again, so I'm not sure if it's a volume issue, however new catalogs with only a few videos freeze also so I doubt that is it.

There must be some conflict somewhere and short of reinstalling my entire operating system I am stuck. Anyone else experience this?

Photos work fabulously, both RAW and JPG and DNG, no issues whatsoever.

I'm so frustrated by this 😕😕 One more note, a full system reboot will usually again let it work for a little while (like, a few to 10 minutes)
