P: Crash on startup

I was using LR 8.2 today and tried to use the Enhance Details. An error came up saying I needed to update Windows 10 for it to work. I updated Windows 10 and ever since Lightroom Classic CC and CC for Desktop crash upon startup.

I have uninstalled Classic CC and gone back to 8.1 and I am able to work. This is very frustrating.

After updating for LR Classic 8.1 to 8.2 LR Classic crashes on start up. The same with LR CC 2.1 to 2.2.

What to do?

First, make sure that Windows is up to date. Note, some customers won't see the latest update (Version 1809 - OS build 17763) through the automatic update mechanism.

To solve this, please manually update:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028685/windows-10-get-the-update

Lightroom and Camera Raw now exercise ML support in the drivers which is used for enhanced details. The engineer looking at the crash report suspects a corrupted Nvidia GPU driver. He said he was seeing a similar issue and complete uninstall of his graphics driver and clean installation of the latest driver fixed it. He also noted: The Nvidia driver installer has a "Clean Install" option which I attempted initially. That did NOT work. Uninstalling every piece of Nvidia driver/software from the machine and THEN installing the latest driver solved my problem.

Hi,I have had the exact same issues. I have downloadedthe Windows 1809 update and the ones that came after and also got my graphics card driver up to date. LR8.2 crashes on launch. Strange that Photoshop doesn't but LR CC does. Must be a LR thing In my humble opinion.

I had the same problem last night. The version of Windows 10 that I received through automatic update was 1803. I manually checked for update and installed version 1809. After this, the problem was solved. The “Enhance Details” now works. I am exploring it. So far I have not noticed significant difference, either in Lightroom Classic CC or Lightroom CC desktop.

Nice job figuring that out. I'm just going to let them fix it and keep using 8.1 - it works pretty well, actually. But - next time they send me a survey, I will be a little more vocal on support.

Same issue... Lightroom GPU acceleration is completly broken in 8.2
It worked fine in 8.1 but 8.2 will not work with the last 4 recent NVIDIA drivers.
I found a temporary workaround, go into Device manager, go to Display adapter. Right click on the display adapter and Disable device, your screen will blink.
Then you can start Lightroom, it will start (just without GPU support) once Lightroom starts, you can right click on display adapter again, and select Enable Device.
You will have to do this every time, you want to start Lightroom.
Seriously Adobe, did you ever hear of quality control? this is sad.
