P: Edit In External Editor does not work/function

I can not send images from LR4 to any external editor via Photo>Edit In. My system is Mac OS 10.7.3. Using the Edit In command fails to open the external editor and no error message results. This occurs whether the images have the 2012 Process Version applied or not. My external editors are primarily PSE10 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.0. This is an important part of my workflow.

I have reinstalled PSE10 and updated to the newest version of Silver Efex Pro.

I am trying to use PhotoElements to edit in LR 4.1.......I think in the middle of trying all the flipping fixes, it has through off all of my settings. Can someone please help me? I have a new Mac and I just purchased LR4 and Photoshop Elements Premeire 10 just 2 weeks ago. I do not have another LR version to fall back on. Is there an order that I am suppose to install them? Can someon from ADOBE help me or give me LR3 or just plain refund my money? I am very aggrevated at this point. I should have just stuck with Aperture.

@188115 Zawacki: I, too, came from 10 years in software development before turning to photography and I would have lost my job if I stuffed up like Adobe just has. I think it's fine that software companies respond to users' requests for improvements - what worries me is the trend I see of software companies using end users to do their testing for free. It's sort of like "the software is proprietary but the testing is open source".

In another problem/thread on this site ("Lightroom: LR 4 user interface, and Develop slider response very sluggish"), the official response from Adobe was this: "Please install and give it a try. If these performance problems persist, post back and let us know." I'm gobsmacked!! That's a good indication that Adobe has problems attracting and retaining good software testers. I know that software testing is incredibly boring work but I'm sure there are plenty of unemployed people out there that would jump at the chance to give it a go.

Do you have 4.0 or 4.1 rc from labs.adobe.com installed?

The RC for LR 4 works. All Edit in - apps work. Nik, Topaz, onOne. I am running WIndows 7 64 bit, Intel i7 CPU and 12 Gigs of ram. The RC runs fast with no problems so far. I do not have Photoshop installed, just Lightroom 4 RC.

Lets hope they come out with the final fixed version soon.

I must agree with Dave.
I spent 10 years in software development before becoming a full time professional photographer. I would have lost my job over something like this.
Adobe dropped the ball on this one big time. The fact remains that Adobe made no attempt to let the people that purchased this product that there were problems.
Initial "fixes" where awkward and time consuming.
Lost time is lost revenue. Mess withe peoples income and they have every right to get upset.
All we got was an oops - sorry. Then use this beta until we get it right.
Not a good way to conduct business.

Since I started this thread, I thought I'd complete the circle with my successful experience installing the 4.1 RC.

I am a Mac OS 10.7.3 user who found it necessary to install the CS5 trial in order to make LR4's 'Edit In' work properly. Before installing the RC, I uninstalled the CS5 trial and its preferences. The original LR4 install was overwritten by the install of the RC and 'Edit In' now operates as expected. I did not have to set up any of the external editors (Photoshop Elements, Nik, Topaz, etc....) again - the RC found them, presumably from the preferences I'd previously set in LR4.

Thank you to the Lightroom team for fixing this.

Is anyone experiencing a slow down of your computer since installing LR4? Both LR3 and LR 4 seem really sluggish.

Hi Fabrizio. Thanks for the input. I did receive a reply on Twitter from Jeff Tranberry saying he'd recommend uninstalling the CS5 trial. I guess I'll have to uninstall the CS6 beta as well. I won't bother uninstalling my several versions of Photoshop Elements first because they did nothing to solve the initial Edit In problem anyway.

Probably learning from this is not to switch too fast if you a running well with the current version; But I understand that if business fails this makes no fun at all;
cheers

I am since LR2 on the train, started with Nik Plugins at LR3 and now run into that dilemma too;
