P: Edit In External Editor does not work/function

I can not send images from LR4 to any external editor via Photo>Edit In. My system is Mac OS 10.7.3. Using the Edit In command fails to open the external editor and no error message results. This occurs whether the images have the 2012 Process Version applied or not. My external editors are primarily PSE10 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.0. This is an important part of my workflow.

I have reinstalled PSE10 and updated to the newest version of Silver Efex Pro.

@FABRIZIO10039283: Some of us are professional photographers and this issue is causing us grief in terms of time and money. Telling us to go easy on Adobe is not helping.

EDIT - Seems I talked too quickly, it seems there is no way of reading older posts as "Due to volume, only the 15 most recent replies are being displayed ". 😞

I am not an Adobe developer Jullie, but yes, I think you have to uninstall CS5, and Elements if you use it, in order to see if the RC works for you, just as I have to remove the JustMe06 registry patch.

@ Julie Kmoch

Unlike Ian Marks, plugins never showed automatically in LR on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. Both in LR 3 and in LR 4 (I did not try the beta) I had to set up the options in the Edit menu manually, and I assume this is the normal behaviour; this makes sense as it is the same procedure I followed when I used software other than LR: if you want to use an external editor, you have to configure the option in the menu. I use all Nik plugins and Nikon Capture NX2. I don't know how it works on Mac, maybe it is different.

@ everybody

We all hate this situation, but I am certain developers hate it too. It should not have happened but it did, now let's try to cooperate and solve the situation all together. Those who are computer savvy or who simply have some time to spend on trying the release candidate can give their contribution. I cannot do it right now, as I have to finish some editing work before, but in the weekend I will install the RC and post here my comments.
All the others, please be patient, complaining only brings us nowhere. It is important to read carefully previous messages here: I see people asking questions that have been answered over and over, and then feeling frustrated by what they see as lack of answers. In a forum you cannot expect to receive personal answers all the time, it does not work as a personal mail; don't get stuck just on this page, read the previous ones and you may find the answers you need.
And, no, I am not an Adobe employee. :-)

Peace

I still can not edit in Photoshop Elements and my trial for PS 5.6 is expired and already removed. What am I doing wrong? Do I need Camera Raw 6.7? I am on an Imac. This is so frustrating and I am new to a mac and these Adobe programs. I am very frustrated now.......Please Adobe just give me LR 3 please! I have spent alot of money for a program not to work for me.

Julie

In the past the NIK presets were set automatically when the Nik programs were installed. They set up automatically on LR4 Beta when I first installed it. This is the first time I have set them up manually.

Greetings,

Unofficial Registry patch removal (for windows Vista/Win7 32 and 64 bit users)

With the official patch looking like it is comming out soon, those who have tried the unofficial registry patch can safely remove it to make know whether or not the official patch works for them.

There are a few ways to remove it but here is what I feel is the safest and most fail proof way.

1) Open Notepad
2) Copy and past everything between the ******'s (not including the *****'s) into Notepad
*****************************************************
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Photoshop.exe]

****************************************************

3) Now go File--> Save As
4) In "File Type" Select "All Files"
5) Name it "RemovePhotoshop.reg" and save it to the desktop or another place where you can remember where it is.
6) Close notepad and double-click the file you just made
7) When it both asks if you trust the source (you made it) and after when it says it will "add" the information to the registry click "yes" (it will actualy remove the key not add it).

Reinstalling the Unofficial Patch - if needed (for windows Vista/Win7 32 and 64 bit users)

If the Official Patch does not work for you (remember it is still in RC stage - just a bit above Beta) the unofficial patch can be put in place again by the following instructions (almost the same as above)

1) Open Notepad
2) Copy and past everything between the ******'s (not including the *****'s) into Notepad
*****************************************************
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Photoshop.exe]

"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Photoshop CS5\\"

@="C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Photoshop CS5\\Photoshop.exe"

****************************************************

3) Now go File--> Save As
4) In "File Type" Select "All Files"
5) Name it "LightroomPhotoshopPatch.reg" and save it to the desktop or another place where you can remember where it is.
6) Close notepad and double-click the file you just made
7) When it both asks if you trust the source (you made it) and after when it says it will "add" the information to the registry click "yes"

Hope the official works well for all and hope this was helpful

PS I just noticed the message "due to volume only the last 15 responses are displayed." As this may be needed for refrence by some having this issue and trying the RC, is there some way to keep it from dissappearing? - Thanks

@Julie Kmoch

Please advise whether we are supposed to uninstall the CS5 trial before using the 4.1 RC? If we don't, how do we know if a subsequent fix is actually a result of the 4.1 RC and not just a continuation of the band-aid fix of the CS5 trial install?
