P: Edit In External Editor does not work/function

I can not send images from LR4 to any external editor via Photo>Edit In. My system is Mac OS 10.7.3. Using the Edit In command fails to open the external editor and no error message results. This occurs whether the images have the 2012 Process Version applied or not. My external editors are primarily PSE10 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.0. This is an important part of my workflow.

I have reinstalled PSE10 and updated to the newest version of Silver Efex Pro.

Adobe just tells people to download and install a trial version of CS5, which I have done and it fixes all the problems. I am just keeping fingers crossed that Adobe has the new release within the 30 day trial period. At least I can keep working and enjoying the other aspects of LR4 for now.

As far as I can tell, if you did not delete your Lr 3 catalog, it is still there just as it was and if you open Lr3.6 it will open it just fine since it can't open the Lr4 catalog.
The only thing inaccessible will be the new work you may have done in Lr4, but then all you have to do is import the originals into Lr3 and proceed as before.
I have both Lr3 and Lr4 working and I can even have them open at the same time - they don't appear to interfere with each other, other than to slow things down a bit if you have a limited machine but with an Intel iMac you will barely notice!Hope that helps.

Same problem here. I have an iMac running OS Lion. I just upgraded to Lightroom 4. Lightroom 3 ran great with Photoshop Elements 10 until I did the upgrade. I wish I had not done that now. Some people have reverted back to LR3...can anybody tell me how to do that without messing up my catalog??? I appreciate any help in this matter. I love LR...it's so sad that there are so many issues right now. Can't use my Presets that I have purchased without converting the Process back to 2010. Uggghhhh!!!

just processed over 2000 hockey pics and noticed that LR4 is a lot slower in rendering the pics than LR3. i'm running LR4 on a high spec imac with 16gb of ram so did not expect this. is anyone else having similar probs?

As a workaround, I recommend the exporting to disk path.

- same location as the original file
- set the filenaming to IMG_7373_SilverEfex.tif
- edit with Color Efex Pro 4

Benefit: The work of file name templates
Disadvantage: manual sync of the LR catalog needed

Wish @ Adobe: Anyone who works in LR with many external editors, wants for each editor its one file naming template.
