P: Edit In External Editor does not work/function

I can not send images from LR4 to any external editor via Photo>Edit In. My system is Mac OS 10.7.3. Using the Edit In command fails to open the external editor and no error message results. This occurs whether the images have the 2012 Process Version applied or not. My external editors are primarily PSE10 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.0. This is an important part of my workflow.

I have reinstalled PSE10 and updated to the newest version of Silver Efex Pro.

Hi all,

I've just bought the LightRoom 4 upgrade (I had the LR3.6 32bit Windows version) and installed it on my pc.

After doing so the Silver Efex Pro 2.004 tool didn't work anymore. As I try to start editing my pictures through the Silver Efex Pro 2.004 tooI all I get is the following error message:

+-------------+
Lightroom
Unexpected error performing command:
bad argument #1 to 'lower' (string expected, got nil)
+-------------+

Can you please help me with this issue? I just can't use LightRoom anymore and I have work to do!

I've seen on the Adobe forums that other people around the world is experiencing the same issue.

Thanks and best regards,
Salvatore

Additionally, I am running CS5 Extended concurrently with LR4 and still have the problem. I also have onOne Photoframe Pro 4.6 and it IS accessible via the plug-in manager from both CS5 and LR4. The problem for me is isolated to those products that should be accessible via Edit-in.

Another user with the same problem. Imac 24 inch with 4 gig ram and Lion 10.7.3

Found the workaround with the Trial Version of Photoshop PS5 and everything is working for now. Have not started the trial version, it just has to be installed.

If the trial version fixes the problem there is obviously something that got missed from the release version of Lightroom 4.

I edit in Elements 10 and do not need all the features of CS5 or want to spend the extra money for it.

Same problem. Using Neat Images as an External Editor worked in LR 4.0 beta, but doesn't work in the released version. Like others, I get "Unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to 'lower" (string expected, got nil)".

Windows 7, 64 bit.

This workaround works for me

Mac OS 10.7.3, NIK plugins.
Lightroom 4 doesn't do "Edit In" plugin

Installed Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 trial version.
Did not even open it but now my NIK plugins all work.

Add me to the growing list. Same problem.

"Unexpected error performing command:
bad argument #1to 'lower' (string expected, got nil) "

PC, Windows 7

Neither Nik or Topaz plug-ins will work. Come on Adobe. How long does it take?

LR4 release version does not start NIK- and Photoshop Elements Plugin for external edit.

I've upgraded with NIK to the latest versions.

Seems to be bug in LR4RC because the beta worked...

Edit: I just want to mention: I'm on a Mac w/Lion and the "edit in.." command is just doing nothing.

After upgrade from Lightroom 3 to Lightroom 4, all of my Nik filters from the Nik Complete Edition are not working anymore. They are all still available in the menu, but when I select one of them, just nothing happens.

Btw. I'm running LR4 on MacOS Lion including latest updates and also the Nik filters are all latest patch level. According to Nik, they are compatible with LR4.
