P: Edit In External Editor does not work/function

I can not send images from LR4 to any external editor via Photo>Edit In. My system is Mac OS 10.7.3. Using the Edit In command fails to open the external editor and no error message results. This occurs whether the images have the 2012 Process Version applied or not. My external editors are primarily PSE10 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.0. This is an important part of my workflow.

I have reinstalled PSE10 and updated to the newest version of Silver Efex Pro.

4.1 seems to have fixed most things apart from the dreadful sluggishness. Perhaps the next update will help us with this issue?

Adobe, I trust that you will get this fixed soon. But I also believe that you can't treat your customers like you have been by not communicating regularly with them.

So, here is a modest suggestion, I think Adobe should consider rebating back to those individuals who bought Lightroom 4 from the date of initial release (early March, wow, early March) to the date the fixed version is released (I'm guessing May at this point). The rebate could be the amount one who have paid for the the upgrade instead of the full program (i.e. for those customers that paid $149 give them a cash back, a credit back, or a credit to be used at Adobe in the amount of $70. This will match the upgrade price of $79. In case of those individuals who purchased the upgrade and not the full program give the same percentage discount so they get a cash back, a credit back, or a credit to be used at Adobe in the amount of $37).

This is a first step. I'm sure others have other ideas. I like your products wish is why I know you know that you will do the right thing for your customers. We don't like to complain! We just want what we purchased to work at you intended it. Thanks for listening Adobe.

Just to chime in, on my iMac (running Lion) I installed LR 4.0 first, and then PS Elements 10 several weeks later. In LR 4.0, I selected Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor.app as the external editor. In LR, choosing "Edit in..." does nothing. It doesn't start PSE, it doesn't yield an error message, it just does nothing. Hopefully LR 4.1 will take care of the problem if enough people complain.

This is for you Jeffrey Tranberry of Adobe....I don't understand why there is a Solved check mark next to my name when nothing has been solved yet. I'm still looking for a solution.

One more point. Have you tried the 4.1 solution yet?

I notice Andre that you too have Snow Leopard, and assume you're still having the same problem of not being able to access the Edit in function. Although photography is more my hobby, I have lost patience with Adobe in not having a fix for this yet. I have added many new pictures to LR4 and would hate to have to go back to LR3 after all this.

Is there a proven fix for Snow Leopard users? Between this and the glacial performance of the Develop module on my iMac, I'm seriously contemplating moving back to LR3 for good.

One final piece of information. Updating to 4.1 RC does not solve the problem.

Just a clarification to my earlier post. When I select a photo in LR4 and go to "Edit In" I can see all of my Nik choices and Photoshop. If I select, say, Color Efex Pro (most recent version), LR4 prepares a TIFF file, opens Color Efex, shows a progress bar for importing the image and one for pre-processing the image, and then presents me with a totally black window. No image, no tools, nothing. If I select Edit In Photoshop, all is well. I can see all of the NIk tools there. There seems to be some glitch in getting LR4 to complete the final instructions to Nik in order to get the image editor working. Has anyone else had this issue?

I just downloaded LR4 for Win (i'm working on a Vista platform). I also just downloaded and installed Nik software for LR. When I attempt to edit in Nik, the file appears to be generated, but nothing appears in the Nik editing window. It's like the program gets so far, but can't get any further. Any suggestions?
