P: Hanging on launch (Mac 10.14.6)

I just upgraded Lightroom Classic from v 8.1.3 to 8.4.  It now hangs. I am on MacOS Mojave version 10.14.6. When reverting to v 8.1.3, Lightroom works fine. Are there compatibility issues with this version of Mojave? Thanks

Over at the Forum web site, one WIN 10 user with a frozen LR start, removed the Logitech Options plug-in, and that worked. You would probably have to do this outside of LR (modules folder?). If you have that plug-in, perhaps give that a try?

My 15” MACBook Pro Retina 2015 2.8Ghz, MAC OS 10.14.6, LR Classic 8.4 does not have the issue. And, I temporarily had that plug-in enabled after a Logitech Options software update.

After updating, LR Classic 8.4 also hangs on opening on Win 10x64 v.1903 Dell desktop with NVidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card running V.431.70 studio driver. Normal LR operation usually restores after several (long) minutes

I am now able to run LR Classic 8.4 on my high sierra (os 10.13.6) system.  Here's what I did:

0. Revert back to 8.3.1

1. Disabled GPU assistance in LR 8.3.1

2. Created a new, empty catalog

3. Imported my old LR Catalog (suggested by dj_paige, using File->Import from Another Catalog

4. Shutdown LR and signed out of Creative Cloud

5. Signed in to Creative Cloud and started LR 8.3.1

6. Full system reboot

7. Updated LR to 8.4

8. Launched LR which AGAIN had the spinning beach ball

9. Went to bed and let it keep going overnight

Some time during the middle of the night the ball stopped spinning and I now have a working catalog.

I suspect that the combo of 2, 3, and 9 (being patient) were the key elements of the fix.  Coping this to some open threads in the hope that it might help someone else.

@8510810 Flohr, do I need to report a separate bug for 10.13.6

I have 2 libraries on my computer. One for Clients, one for family.
One opens fine... the other will hang at the start screen. A window pops up on startup to ask which catalog I want to open. One opens fine... the other will hang at the splash screen immediately.  If I check; "Test integrity of this catalog", (After choosing the one that doesn't open), it will hang immediately with the 'Select Catalog'  window open.

Hi Rikk,

I wanted to let you know that I sent the information below to Adobe Support in reference to the issue you are also investigating from “Photoshop Family”. (Lightroom 8.4 hanging at launch with OS 10.14.6).
Thanks

Have you tried not just launching Lightroom, but double-clicking on the ACTUAL catalog in your user location (I know you're Win10, so wherever your catalog is stored)? Other thought: is the lock file there before you try to open LR? If so, can you delete before?

After latest upgrade I couldn't open Lightroom Classic. After a conversation/chat with helpdesk I was advised to install a previous version 8.3 and I was informed that most likely the internal graphic card in my iMac that is less than 1 year old is not compatible with the lates Lightroom Classic...

How can adobe be realising latest version that are not working with equipment that is up to date and is used by millions of users ?

Best regards,

Witold
