P: Issue with Map module in OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)

On OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), the map in Lightroom's Map module is very slow to load. It takes several minutes before the first part of the map appears, and some parts don't load at all, saying instead "Sorry, we have no imagery here", even though the part in question is on Google Maps. When zooming in or out, it's the same, it takes very long to update.

I reported this 5 months ago, I hope you don't wait as long....

I have just used the maps module for the first time since installing Yosemite and the same problem is occurring for me. When I try to see a map my computer sends a stream of data somewhere. This uploading seems to be what prevents the map from downloading. My internet is 15mbps down and 0.7mbps up. Even if I leave the maps module, Lightroom continues to send this data, until I quit the app. When I relaunch the app no problems until I enter the maps module and try to search for a location. Please fix this ASAP. My workaround is to use GraphicConverter for adding geo metadata.

Hi,

I just tried the way to get access to the internet via my phone instead of my normal internet land line. Unfortunately I live in a remote village with only EDGE Speed on the mobile line - that are round about 0,2MBit/s - thats very small ....
BUT ...
except of the small bandwith the maps are loading - very slow (due to the bandwith) but constantly and way faster than my 14 to 15MBit/s land line connection which will not work with the map module.
Strange!

2nd strange thing - the map modul was still working after I switched back to my normal WiFi via my land line connection (slower than it works on my iMac which is still on Mavericks, but nearly an usable speed) - even if I closed LR and reopen it works. Only when I restart the whole macbook the map issue is back.

I tried it several times and every time the same result - mobil connection works - connection still works after I switch back to normal connection - and is not working after complete system restart.

So - where is the hidden camera and who is kidding me??

Ok so another iMac won't load maps, must admit i am wondering how many actually
do, if it was for not being able to access my Pages and Numbers files i would have stuck on maverick but its hard doing all your work over again.

This one has this software

I would be very interested in your 3G upload speed, I am convinced it is to with upload speed more than Download and often the differential on 3G is not so great as ADSL?

This happens on my ADSL Broadband at approx 7.5Mbs, but not on 3G which runs at approximately 5Mbs. Definitely not a connection speed problem.

I am trying be constructive but struggle to see why it is an Apple problem? Google Maps, Bing Maps, Aperture Maps etc. all work perfectly.

The 2 basic facts are:
1) it only happens on slow connections (and I would love to hear from anyone who has circa 5mbs download and 1mbs upload for who LR maps works?)
2) LR is uploading loads of data I believe to Google analytics, no other application uploads anything like this volume of data on a mark request.

The main frustration is that I reported this to Adobe and Apple 5 months ago (day one off Yosemite beta release) and we are still struggling with it. It was wrong of Adobe not to warn people of a potential issue if upgrading to Yosemite. Neither has Adobe offered any reduction of our subscription whilst we suffer this.

Chris fwiw I certainly blame Apple for the issue of odd conectivity in wifi, bluetooth and issuing before what I consider the most important aspect of a computer ie conectivity. It's important that you understand my anger at Adobe is that you say as far as I am aware even now the Adobe is working on Yosemite OS X when you are aware it's not. I don't blame the science team for this and thank you for trying to find a fix. I do blame sales though as it is certainly an issue that I think if every LR user tried maps would be huge not the few who contribute here. You may have seen I bought a new Mac with Maverick I am so stuck now I really want maps, my problem is many of my documents I created in the last few weeks now won't open as the software was newer talk about rock and a hard place.
