P: Issue with Map module in OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)

On OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), the map in Lightroom's Map module is very slow to load. It takes several minutes before the first part of the map appears, and some parts don't load at all, saying instead "Sorry, we have no imagery here", even though the part in question is on Google Maps. When zooming in or out, it's the same, it takes very long to update.

I agree that this looks like an issue with the way Google is connected to. If you click on report map error - bottom right in LR the same map loads fine in Safari. Clearly an LR issue and not hardware.

Thank you Jeffrey

Maybe Adobe could ring Apple i am grateful at least Adobe is now corresponding however you have known about this issue for several months why on earth did you not declare that an issue with Maps may arise if your customers did the Yosemite upgrade speaking for myself i would have remained on Mavericks.

I see little or no chance that its a graphic card fault with Apple i thought they had tight control on the parts sourced across the range, it looks from those people who are contributing in this thread like me probably have a machine that is pure apple spec.

Fingers crossed Adobe get a large team together for a fix and lets be honest its no good doing LR6 if the same source code is an issue so maybe that team should get involved

Thank you

Allan

Jeffrey if you read the full thread there are plentiful examples of why this most unlikely to be hardware specific. For example:

1) If I plug my 4g iPhone that gets 25mbs the problem goes away. My standard broadband is only
2) I justbought a brand new iMac, the issue persists on the new machine.
3) I also have a MacBook pro, this has the same problem but also be 'fixed' by plugging in my iPhone.

Surely this is enough to prove it is not specific to hardware. In my case it is definitely broadband speed related. Anyhow what is Lightroom doing when a map is requested? Huge amounts of data immediately start uploading/downloading!

I doubt very much it is related to graphics chipsets. I have the issue, but I can circumvent it by pre-fetching the tiles by clicking on "Report Map Error". The tiles then populate quite happily in LR.

Further, I discovered that whilst I was running a large download (it happened to be of the windows version of LR in //) I observed that Mac LR maps module behaved perfectly: I had maps for the hour or so of the download.

If this is a general observation then the issue has to be something to do with the way the maps module initiates a network connection with google. This may also match up with other evidence in these threads, where people have observed that a very fast internet connection makes the problem apparently disappear.

As Julie explained earlier: The engineering team is investigating what changed in 10.10 to cause this issue. Because it appears to be hardware specific and involves changes in source code (OS X) we don't have access to, it makes it especially difficult.

I see Adobe have reverted to a deafening silence!

Really unprofessional not to keep their paying customers in the loop about what is being done about this!

Same problem for me. I can't believe this cannot be fixed by a company that huge! May I suggest sorting out the priorities? We are paying customers after all!
My specs; Lightroom 5.6, OS X 10.10, iMac 3,06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 12 GB Ram, ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB.

I am experiencing the same issue with 5.6 and Yosemite. The spec of my system is an iMAC with i7 and 16GB RAM plus 3 TB 60% free. Google maps loads fine in Safari but in Lightroom its impossibly slow and segments time out. Rapid solution and update please?

Bit of envy here Dave lol been looking at the 5K but not fond of paying while the LR map module does not work

Morning Adobe World

Any updates for a fix please?

Even using an app for a GPX trackless causes me in map module to have no internet the module is useless as is

Cheers
