P: LR4 doesn't display point curve adjustments made in LR3

After updating from LR3, LR4 has reset my tone curves. I use custom tone curves on almost every picture, and all my contrast treatments this way seem to have gone. Initially the previews were still the old ones, so I only noticed after opening several pictures in the develop module, just to see my meticulous tone curve adjustments be removed.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Could there be a tool that just selects the relevant images (those edited with point curve) ?

I think there's a missconception here about what the script does to images with custom tone curves from LR3, but with edits applied after the catalog conversion (but before running the script) in LR4:

From Dorin's post
The script will not update any image that has already been touched in LR4 Develop or Quick Develop, even if not updated to 2012
one might think that there's no action taken at all on those images, which is not true.

On those images, the point curve step in history is reinstated, so you can click on the history step and see the custom curve (which you cannot without running the script). But the image is left in its last state of development (without the point curve reinstated) and put into the temporary collection created by the script.

I don't consider this an optimal behaviour, as if there are many corrected images in the temporary collection, those images left in their last state are hard to identify.

I would like to be informed when "Edit in" external program issue is fixed. I cannot use my Nik's software collection plugins.

I second Cornelia's opinion. And her summary is good, especially the part about what will NOT happen.
But I want to add one thing: you might want to look at the other threads regarding LR3 here. There are at least two other issues that might make you want to wait. For me, the performance problems are the worst thing. In the develop module the sliders freeze, the image is not adjusted continuously, second monitor is out of the question. So much worse than before that working is no fun. So far, no viable workaround.

A note for those who have the "store presets with catalog" option activated:

Do not put the "scripts" folder where the presets are stored with the catalog (i.e. where the "show lightroom presets folder" button tells you).

Instead, put it where LR would store the presets when that option would be not activated, e.g. C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom on Win7.

Otherwise, the menu will not appear.

P.S. The script itself seemed to work for me, with the exception of linear curves (for RAWs) as already observed by others. I didn't test for photos with already changed develop settings.

...that you do NOT get havoc...

But you know that you cannot complain if this goes wrong. This is ALPHA testing, even with positive results by some testers so far.

You can expect:
* The script will correctly update Strong and Custom. Will leave Normal alone, as it should.

And you know what it will not help to restore:
1. The script will not update Linear Tone Curve chosen in LR3 for Raw-files, nor Medium Tone Curve chosen in LR3 for JPG-files
2. The script will not update any image that has already been touched in LR4 Develop or Quick Develop, even if not updated to 2012.... which I consider a deliberate good feature!

If you want any *insurance* that you do get havoc, you better wait for LR4.1.

Good luck, Cornelia

1. Download the Restore Lightroom 3 Point Tone Curves.lua file from this location:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18653315/Restore Lightroom 3 Point Tone Curves.lua
2. Open Lightroom 4.0 and open the preference dialog from the following menu item.
a. Mac: Lightroom -> Preferences
b. Windows: Edit -> Preferences
3. Choose the Preset tab and select “Show Lightroom Presets Folder...” button
4. Create a new folder in that directory titled “Scripts”
5. Copy the downloaded file into the new “Scripts” directory
6. Quit and relaunch Lightroom 4.0
7. Choose the “Restore Lightroom 3 Point Tone Curves” option listed under the Scripts menu.
a. Mac: This menu is shown to the right of the Help menu item and appears as a scroll icon
b. Windows: This menu item is titled “Scripts” and will appear as the last menu item on the
right
8. The script will create a temporary collection in the Catalog panel in Library called "Photos with
Recovered Point Curves."
9. If no photos need tone curve settings repair the script will display a message indicating that is
the case.

The FIX of this known bug by the script of this thread is indeed an alpha-test.
LR4.0 is not...
LR4.1 shall not (should not?) be either...

Sorry Cornelia, this is not an alpha test. I paid for it. I have been using Lightroom since the original beta. This time, I specifically held off downloading it until it was released.
