P: LrC 15.5 Video Files Issues (Windows)

I updated to LrC 15.5 a few hours ago.  Since then LrC has problems with video files.  The first problem I noticed was that when I tried to synchronize a folder that had two new video files.  After a couple of minutes I got the error message “An unknown error occurred while reading the video file. (2)”.  I had just completed those files with DaVinci Resolve so I went back and produced the same files again to check if DR had made an error.  When I tried again with the new files but got the same errors.  I was able to play both videos without any issue using VLC Media Player, so they seem to be OK.  I then shutdown LrC and did a backup including optimizing the catalog, and then restarted it to see if that made any difference, but same error.  Then I started looking at other videos that were already in LrC and found that when browsing them in the Library module, most of them pop up a message “There was an error working with the video”.  They will not play in LrC but work fine with VLC Media Player. 

Prior to upgrading to 15.5 I did not experience any of these errors. Is anyone else seeing these problems?

      Lightroom Classic definitely supports .mov files. https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/desktop/kb/video-support-lightroom.html

      So please explain in more detail what steps you follow and what happens. If there is an error message, please quote the complete exact unedited word-for-word error message, even if it is not in English.

      Då och då filmar jag med min Iphone 15 pro max och mobilen skapar då en format som heter .mov. Detta format klarar inte Lightroom Classic vers. 15.6 att öppna och spela upp. Jag tvingas därför använda programmet HandBrake för att konvertera filerna från .mov till .mp4 format. Då fungerar uppspelningen i Lightroom Classic.

      Varför klarar inte programmet  uppspelning av .mov filerna?

      Version 15.6 here as well. Just stumbled on this issue a few days ago after not working in LR for a few weeks. Just spent 2 hours trying to find a reason for this problem, deleting dynamiclink folders and emptying the video caches and even repairing visual c++. Glad I found this now, so I know I am not alone with this - BUT - this is not good though. Does anyone know if Adobe is working on this to resolve the issue???

        I also Confirm the issue on Windows with Lightroom Classic 15.6.

        The issue is still present after updating from 15.5 to 15.6. Lightroom Classic fails to import my MP4 video files, while the same files play correctly in Windows and in other applications.

        I tested the exact same files, catalog and computer in Lightroom Classic 15.4.1, and they import normally there. Therefore, this appears to be a regression introduced in version 15.5 that remains unresolved in 15.6.

        Downgrading to 15.4.1 is currently the only reliable workaround for my workflow.

          The video problems introduced in LrC 15.5 on Windows are still unresolved in LrC 15.6.

          After testing videos in Lightroom Classic with 8-bit SDR, 10-bit HDR, a codec tag and removing the spatial audio track, it seems the problem is related to HEVC decoding in LrC in general.

          System:
          - Lightroom Classic 15.6, Camera Raw 18.7
          - Windows 11 Pro 23H2
          - GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5080 Driver Version: 32.0.16.1714

          What I tested (short clips remuxed or re-encoded with ffmpeg):
          - Original .MOV: fails
          - Remux with only the AAC audio track (APAC removed), -c copy: fails
          - Re-encode to HEVC 8-bit (libx265, yuv420p, hvc1), no HDR/Dolby Vision: fails
          - Re-encode to HEVC 10-bit (yuv420p10le): fails
          - Remux with the hev1 tag instead of hvc1: fails
          - Re-encode to H.264 8-bit: imports and plays fine

          So even a plain 8-bit HEVC .mp4 fails on an RTX 5080, while H.264 works.

          I also tried the dynamiclinkmediaserver / dynamiclinkmediamanager steps from Adobe's video troubleshooting article, with no change.

            Same issue in Lightroom Classic 15.6 on Windows 11 Pro. HEVC import fails with "An unknown error occurred while reading the video file". H.264 imports fine.

            • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060, GPU acceleration on, Studio drivers updated
            • Microsoft HEVC Video Extensions (paid version) installed, files play fine in Windows
            • File: HEVC Main, 8-bit 4:2:0, constant 25 fps, AAC, exported from DaVinci Resolve
            • Tried: remuxing without the timecode track, changing the codec tag from hvc1 to hev1, clearing video cache and dynamiclinkmanager folder – no change
            • Confirmed: downgrading to 15.4.1 fixes it

              Same issue with a video taken with Canon EOS R6 Mk II FHD in MP4 format. Video is not imported due to unknown error, tried several things supposed by Google AI like rename to MTS or MOV, reformat with shutter encoder. Nothing helped, Size 33GB, lenght about 1.35 hrs. LrC 15.5.1. Windows 11 Pro 26H2. Graphics Nvidia RTX 4060 TI,latest driver.

                Same problem here. Videos play fine on Windows but Lightroom can’t import them. This used to work. Still broke in 15.6.

                  I just updated to 15.6 and the issue persists. Back to 15.4 for me.

                    Confirming this issue in Lightroom Classic 15.6 (Windows 11).

                    - Videos: HEVC (H.265) .mp4 files from Pixel 6a and Pixel 10 Pro
                    - Import fails with "An unknown error occurred while reading the video file" (14 files affected)
                    - The files play fine in Windows, and they imported fine in earlier versions
                    - Remuxing the files from hvc1 to hev1 with ffmpeg (-c copy -tag:v hev1) does not help
                    - After downgrading to 15.4.1, the same files import without problems

                    So this looks like a regression in HEVC video handling introduced in 15.5 and still present in 15.6.
