P: Slow UI when using Mac and Custom Display Profile

Hello,

Since upgrading to Lightroom Classic v10.0, all UI-related functionality is painfully slow. All editing functions are working correctly and quickly but scrolling through the catalogue or even scrolling a side panel is taking many long seconds to refresh. Unreasonably long.

Disabling GPU Accellaration has no affect on my Lightroom's performance.

macOS Mojave 10.14.6

Mac Pro (Late 2013)

3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5

32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3

AMD FirePro D700 6 GB

The solution is to roll back to the last major version, or instead, use sRGB or Adobe RGB (1998) as the display profile, or wait for the fix which is on the way and no, the exact date can't be provided.

The paranoia over Windows is mind-boggling. If you are truly skilled with macOS, it would take a few few days and some internet searches to get up to speed. We run both macOS and Windows. Apple delivers more bugs, is less stable and is hit by more malware per machine than Windows. If my business was at risk due to my technology choice, I'd take a long hard look at the reasoning behind my decisions. And just how long are you prepared to be disabled?

Anyone who's been around technology as long as you have knows to always wait for version 3 of any new technology. We are 2-3 years away from being able to bet the business on the M1 and the software ported to that platform. You are complaining about bugs on the mature version of Lightroom, how long do you think it will take to get stable on a new hardware and software architecture?

I have not used a Windows machine in nearly two decades. As I am my own tech support for my business and my wife and son, the thought of switching back to Windows (and the myriad problems that also rear their head in Windows) is highly unpalatable. Add to that the massive performance gains on the horizon from Apples M1x  professional line of upcoming processors, and there is nothing appealing about switching to Windows.

Also, my backlog of editing work and heavy near term shoot schedule would be made vastly worse by the prospect of setting up a new system and transferring all the files (500,000+ image libraries, etc) to Windows.

it’s like being captain of a container ship with an engine down, and debating offloading everything onto an empty sailing ship, without even knowing how to sail, and no one to help.

it is an intractable situation either way, but Windows is not a resort that makes sense for me, now or in the long term.

Is there any reason for you to be using Apple hardware? Almost all these problems go away with Lightroom on Windows. Plus for equivalent performance and quality, a Windows workstation will be half the price.

Edit: If anyone at Adobe is listening, my LRC crash codes are probably stored under "adobe@sargentschutt.com". I'm not sure if that includes all of the times I've had to 'hard reset' my MP but there have been numerous reports filed.

I could write a ten thousand word essay about my professional problems with Lightroom Classic 10 over the past several months, but I NEED a solution. I'm wondering if anyone can help. I am working 100+ hours a week, and three months behind on edits, and I just need a solution. To that end:

1) Are there any Mac configurations that are *known* have a fast UI in Lightroom Classic 10, with monitor calibration?

2) Has anyone who works with composite imagery found Capture One to be a good alternative (seems like HDR, "open as layers in photoshop", and blooming around building edges are all issues).

3) Is there ANY new information on Adobe releasing a fix to (a) the slow UI, (b) incompatibility with custom monitor profiles, or (c) incessant freezes and crashes in LRC 10?

4) Monitor recommendations that have tru built-in color correction that do not require 'monitor calibration' preferences within the OS/Adobe (because that is decidedly not a feature of Adobe's "professional" image editing software anymore)

My professional career, home life, and personal sanity are at an end, and I am prepared to sell investments or whatever it takes to quickly get my workflow back on track. I do not want to learn C1, or spend days on end converting my 500,000+ image library, or spend $10k on a new computer before the Apple M1x professional options are released, but one of those things HAS to happen. My family is suffering, I am suffering, and my career is suffering. I NEED some kind of solution ASAP. I am that completely FV©#3D right now.

It seems the only other option is to put my LRC 10 library into 'abandoned' status (buy more drives and back it all up and take it off line) and reinstall LRC 9 and re-import the 500,000+ LRC 10 Library (without any of the LRC 10 edits, with several days of import downtime) and wait for Adobe's incompetent minions to fix their criminally incompetent software release.

If anyone has any good suggestions or insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

My system, FWIW:

Mac Pro 5,1

OSX Mojave

6 gore 3.33 Ghz

48GB RAM (triple channel)

RX 580 GPU (GPU acceleration in PS/LRC turned off)

Sonnet M.2 4x4 with 3x striped 2TB SSDs for working projects (6k MBS i/o)

Sonnet M.2 4x4 2TB boot/app drive

4x 14TB NAS HDD Softraid completed projects library (RAID 5)
