P: Subject Mask from previous versions are requesting an update

After updating Lightroom Classic to v14 and converted my database, all the edited photos that had a "Subject Mask" applied now have an empty mask with a warning and exclamation mark (!).

If I let Lightroom correct the mask pushing the exclamation mark on a single photo, it seems the correct subject is selected, keeping the edits. If I do the same with multiple photos together it appears teh usual form that tells that the AI masks are recalculated, but at the end all the masks are still empty with warnings.

Same issue hundred of photos.

It is especially great when you export photos and realize that half of the images have been exported unedited. It is also great when you preview the images with the processing and the masks and presets are removed when you click on them. I will look at it for a while, then unfortunately I will have to switch back to DXO Lab, perhaps in conjunction with Photoshop and Topaz - it works quite well. Sure I will miss the convenience, the AI features and the ability to work on the go, but what is the point if it doesn't really work?

We're also having this problem in May 2025 and can't deliver any work as the AI masks won't stay on.

Every single time I open LRC to work on my clients wedding photos!!!!!  It is EXHAUSTING!!  I find this  inexcusable on ADOBE's part.  We pay $60/m for this?????  Get the bugs out or i'll be canceling and owning my own software editor from another company!

When does it happen?  every instance of opening LRC from a closed state.

What do i experience? all masks, Remove, heal, clone, blur, Denoise, crop edits that I make from the previous session are needing to be updated.... not just a one button update, but I have to click on every mask created find the subject/object/preset used and update it.  Also if I update the masks first, then go to the Blur and update that, next I have to RE-update the masks, crop, remove/heal/clone, etc... all over again!

What needs to be fixed?  If I need to update, it needs to analyse and know the sequence of priority for a one button push update on all!   I really should not have to do the update if it would just save to the catalouge properly.  I have LRC set to ask me to save the cat file every time prior to exit.

This bug is a big time waster and is costing me time and money!  Fix it Adobe! or I'm gone!

Is this the issue you experienced? I updated to 14.01 to fix the bug and it resolved for about an hour and then started running into issues again. This is affecting my workflow.

Hi, We had the same problem and I had a long tel. conversation with the technik support. The problem was not the update. When saving the backup catalogue, Lightroom was creating a "corrupted file" that was what the technician said. So he recreated the latest catalogue, how, I can't tell you, and now everything works. He told me that the problem happens quite often and is known from Adobe. So maybe check your catalogue. Best regards
