P: "Synchronize Settings" very slow, using 10% CPU

Looks like there's a bug with Auto Sync and Lens Corrections > Enable Profile Corrections.  The workaround for this particular bug is to avoid Auto Sync and use Copy/Paste Develop Settings or "Sync..." instead.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Select 400 raws.

2. Edit one of the raws in Develop.

3. Make sure Auto Sync is disabled.

4. Check Enable Profile Corrections.

5. Click Sync, check just Lens Profile Corrections, and click Synchronize. Observe the progress bar -- it takes less than 3 seconds for the sync to complete on 400 photos, or about 145 photos/sec.

6. In Library, do Develop Settings > Reset.

7. Edit one of the raws.

8. Enable Auto Sync.

9. Check Enable Profile Corrections.  Observe that it takes a couple of minutes for the progress bar to indicate completion -- about 2.5 photos/sec.

Tested on LR 8.3.1 / Mac OS 10.14.5.

Seems to be mostly the Enable Profile Corrections. I'm on 8.3 and checking the setting seems to be a single-threaded, serial operation. I just checked and it's 100% utilization of single thread. I just queued up 208 shots, enabled profile corrections and it definitely is faster now. Took about 60 seconds. Interestingly, unchecking the corrections takes the exact same time to disregard the lens calculations. (Nikon D750 14-bit NEF, 8700K CPU w/64GB RAM and catalog is on M.2 3500MB/s SSD)

Why isn't the set chopped up and thrown the the whole CPU like Export does now after years of people asking? I can't actually gang up 1/3+1/3+1/3 because after checking the Enable Profile Corrections to the first 1/3, the UI is locked (grayed) out.

I use always new catalogues, ' Optimize Catalog' does not help. Can anybody from Adobe check this issue please?

Chiming in here, I have similar issues with very slow copy/pasting of settings or syncing of settings. I'm on a maxed out 2015 MBPro with the latest OS and the latest update of LR Classic.

Here's my CPU utilization when I have a few hundred images selected, AUTO SYNC enabled, and choose to apply lens profile corrections.

I am curious if you were to turn off Auto Sync and instead, copy and paste the settings from one image to 299 images if the operation is faster, slower or takes the same amount of time? 

Returning to your original workflow, if you don't apply Lens Corrections is the time affected? If you apply lens corrections but not noise/sharpness?
