P: Unable to relaunch after File>New Catalog/Switching catalogs, or relaunching with certain plugins

Hello, I just updated LR Classic from v14.4 to v14.5 on Windows 10.
I’d like to report a major bug:

  • It is impossible to create a new catalog from within the application (Menu > File > New Catalog).
  • It is impossible to switch catalogs (except by clicking directly on the catalog file to open the application).

The window App closes, then nothing happens for several minutes (Task Manager shows a "zombie" Adobe process still running) → I have to kill It to reOpen the app.

I had to reinstall version 14.4 and everything is now working normally again.

Not much time to experiment, too much to do. However:

Tried switching off both Logi options and plugin, Lightroom Classic task peristance after shutting down re-emerged.

Tried with just Logi Plug-in enabled, still a problem.

Tried with just the Logi Plug-in enabled - no persistance, re-start fine.

Can't speak of the other plug-ins on my application but the cause on my windows 11 workstation appears to be associated with the Logi Options task not shutting down on Lightroom Classic closure. Hope helps.

@photoviator

Would it be possible for you to reactivate the plugins one after the other and test with which plugin the problem occurs. I could imagine that not all plugins cause a problem, but only one or two. This would allow you to find out which plugin is causing the problem and then check which functions in Lightroom Classic are faulty.

Hello,

On my lastest MACOS version , lightroom freeze everyting I quit.
If I ask for a backup it does it then freeze, without backup it freeze directly. (Apple balloon spinning forever).
I have to "force quit".
Send report to Apple, but I'm not asket by Lightroom to do so to Adobe.
Regards

Disabling all my plug-ins, Logi Plugin, LogiOptions, AdobeStock, Flikr, Nik 8 HDR Efex and Plugin Parameters (part of Nik8, appears to have removed the issue of being unable to restart Lightroom classic without resorting to terminating the active 'zombie' task in Windows Task Manager. Bit of a bore losing the plug-in functionality, but as a temporary fix it does seem to work. Many thanks.

I've isolated my LrC fail to quit on a Mac to a plugin Lightroom Super Keys https://www.lrsuperkeys.com/
I see others have the problem but with different plugins.

I am in exactly the same situation.
Lightroom has become an absolutely unstable program.
It has corrupted all my catalogs and backups since February 2025.
I can't open my catalogs because they keep closing.
My entire professional life is currently in jeopardy because of this program's bugs.
It's absolutely unworthy of the Adobe brand.
I'll have to reconsider switching to Capture One, as my friends tell me it's stable and problem-free.

@Larion476: "Will we be informed when this bug is fixed?"

When Adobe releases a fix, they will update this thread. So if you continue following it, you'll get an email notification.

- LRc does not terminate correctly (a process consuming memory keeps running)
- masking for motive or persons do not work anymore

- sometimes in this case the prewiev in developing mode crush (you have to restart LR)

- some updates ago also the "lens blur" does not work since some updates ago (before works perfectly)

I'm very, very dissatisfied with the recent updates. The improvements are marginal, and something keeps breaking. The application's stability has deteriorated considerably. Most of the time, the preview pane in the Develop window no longer updates—then the only solution is a restart. Now that doesn't work either. I've already reported this to support, but haven't received any help or confirmation...
