JPG export not working after denoise

After applying AI Denoise to a batch of RAW photographs in Lightroom Desktop 9.6 on macOS, JPG export hangs and never begins.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open RAW photographs in Lightroom Desktop.
  2. Apply AI Denoise to multiple photographs as a batch.
  3. Wait for Denoise processing to complete.
  4. Select the processed photographs and export as JPG.
  5. Export progress doesn’t action or show.

Troubleshooting performed

  • Disabling GPU acceleration does not resolve the issue.
  • Rolling back from Lightroom 9.6 to 9.5.1 does not resolve the issue.
  • The original RAW files export correctly.
  • Applying Denoise to an individual photograph can work correctly but then hangs again.
  • Clearing the CameraRaw/ModelZoo cache temporarily appeared to resolve the problem, but the issue returned after batch Denoise.
  • Most importantly: after batch Denoise completes, quitting Lightroom completely and reopening it allows the same Denoised photographs to export successfully.

This appears to indicate that batch AI Denoise is leaving Lightroom’s AI/rendering resources in a state that prevents subsequent export. Restarting Lightroom clears the problem.

Expected behaviour

After AI Denoise completes, photographs should export normally without requiring Lightroom to be restarted.

Actual behaviour

JPG export remains at 0% indefinitely after batch Denoise. Restarting Lightroom restores export functionality.

Camera: Nikon Z8
Application: Lightroom Desktop / Cloud 9.6
Platform: macOS

Hi @jamiek48811865, Welcome to the Lightroom Community forum! Can you send your system info? You can find your system info by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here. In the meantime, here are the recommended next steps:

    1. Try turning off "Use GPU for Export" specifically in Settings > Performance, there's a separate toggle for GPU-accelerated export (distinct from the general GPU acceleration you already disabled). Turn that off and retry.

    2. Reduce batch size: Try applying Denoise in smaller batches (10–20 photos at a time) and waiting for each batch to fully complete before starting the next or exporting.

    3. Workaround (which you already found): Restarting Lightroom after batch Denoise and before export is the most reliable workaround for now. Your diagnosis is spot-on: batch Denoise appears to leave rendering resources in a blocked state that a restart clears.

    4. Collect logs if the issue persists: After reproducing the hang, Press and hold the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac). Hidden diagnostic options will appear. Click Diagnostic Log and share the zip file. This will help the team investigate further.

Thanks for sending this information and for helping us investigate this issue! ^CH
