P: Folders/Albums/Photos VERY slow to populate after update

I have what I think is a relatively modest Lightroom footprint (just under 39k photos in the cloud, with local replica, just under a TB of data).

Most of my Lightroom use is on a Mac Studio (M1 Max, 32GB ram), MacOS 12.6.

I previously rolled back from LR 5.5 to LR 5.4, as 5.5 performance was abysmal.  Performance returned to normal with the rollback to 5.4.

I upgraded from 5.4 to 6.0 2 days ago.  Since then, it takes an extended period of time (hours) for folders/albums/photos to appear in the left side navigation, and even once it does, Lightroom 6.0 is unsuable--clicking between albums doesn't trigger an update in the photo pane, creation of new albums/folders doesn't appear in the navigation pane, etc.

Everything still works fine directly via the web and in the iOS apps.

I'm tempted to roll back to 5.4, but was curious if anyone else has experienced this, and if there's anything I should do first before rolling back.

One of the LrD Engineers has reviewed your post and is requesting a diagnostic log while you are operating under version 6.0.

For LrDesktop

  • Go to Preferences
  • Account Section
  • Hold down the [Opt/Alt] key to make [Diagnostic Log] button appear.

When you have the log ready, reply on this forum thread and I will contact you with instructions to send it.

Thanks!

Diagnostic log genereted.   Late last night I stumbled onto another data point--it appears that this behavior may be related to storing the local copy on a network drive on the Mac, as last night at one point I started Lightroom with the NAS volume that houses my local copy dismounted.  This approach (which I believe is pretty common for photographers with a lot of images), has worked flawlessly up through LR 5.4.
