P: Import Limits When Offline

Using LR 6.3.0 and Apple Ipad Air 4 on iOs 14.6

When Wifi is connected but sync is paused, I can import any number of large files (12Gb), process them then delete them and allow the sync to complete (no files to sync as they are now deleted).

However, when I try the same with wifi disconnected (Wifi on iPad switched off) the import stops at approximately 174 files and I have to import in batches of 100, process, export, delete and repeat, this is tedious in the extreme.

Is there a way to use the app completely offline (not everyone or every situation calls for cloud storage or sync) or to convince the app that a connection exists when out of wifi range?

Images are all .ARW, approx 37MB, dimensions are 7360x4912px

Any info about the settings for those images and possibly videos would be very helpful, dimensions, bits used etc.

I only import images into Lightroom.

Installed app again, closed everything, restarted, opened and signed into LR, turned off wifi and imported the same images as above.

Result was almost identical (171 images imported instead of 179 but much the same).

Btw do you also import videos or only Raw images?

Thanks for the screen shots, those help a lot.
You are indeed hitting a bug, the question is if it really only occurs when offline.

If you quit all other apps running and restart the device, does it still occur?

Importing from an SD card reader, as taken from a Sony A7r in this case. It has been 174 files with a past set of photos but this time it was 179 so I assume it's more the amount of data than the number of images.

I'm going via the Files app to import the files rather than the direct import that pops up on inserting an SD reader but the outcome is almost identical, just from a different looking import panel. Only 170 imported from the direct import.

Screen grabs:

Prior to import, clean install of Lightroom, wifi off.

Cloud menu before any uploading starts.

Cloud Menu at start of Import

Import under way, trying to upload and import files.

Import stopped at 179 images.

Alternatively, Via the direct import dialog box. Same outcome, import stopped at 170 images this time though.

Hi,

thank you for reporting this issue, this does sound like a bug.
It would be great if you could clarify what you mean by "stops at approx...".

I assume you are using the direct import feature with e.g. a card reader with SD card attached to it, is this correct? If not please attach a screen shot from where you see it stopping.

Either way, once the import is running, if you tap on the cloud icon, what does it say exactly?

Thanks,
Ignacio
