P: Issues with Lightroom Masking version 9.4.1

I am using Lightroom (Cloud) on a Windows 11 PC with plenty of ram etc. I have noticed that since the last update (9.4.1) that when I am in the Masking tools that if I create a mask (any style of mask) and make any changes to any of the sliders if I then create another mask of any style it automatically applies all the slider changes to the next mask I create. I have tried to use “Reset Sliders Automatically” setting that doesn’t make any difference. I have also noticed that once this happens that it will not allow me to right click (PC Version) on the new mask just created to delete it. I have to go up to the EDIT on the main menu and then click “Undo New Mask”. This is very frustrating and time consuming to have to manually reset all sliders. I have been using this Lightroom (Cloud)  a few years now and have never had any of these types of issues with the masking tool. Am I doing something wrong or am I correct in thinking the controls of the masking tools have changed?

By the way, as I work stuck with this terrible bug, seems that the new mask (it’s always after the first mask that starts the trouble) tries to understand (with AI?) what I want to do with the new mask. So if I do a radial mask to a darker area it will automatically set the exposure higher. Same to areas with different temperature, it will mess with settings on the color section.

On another occasion if I myself set the exposure dial for example, the slider will stick to a certain number and won’t move anymore. I need to go to another picture and go back to where I was working to be able to move the slider again.

Thanks, everyone, and sorry for the trouble!  This problem should be fixed in our next release.  We will update this thread once the fix is available.

Same here, some new masks I add (mostly radial and linear) come preloaded with settings. Resetting preferences on start-up doesn’t resolve the issue. It really messes with my workflow and gives big delay for important jobs that need to be edited. If Adobe wants to be my “partner” by providing subscriptions delivering problematic updates then I have to send a refund request soon if there will not be a fix asap.

Hi everyone, Thank for letting us know about the masking issues you’re experiencing. I have seen this behavior as well. In order to better replicate and look into this issue, we can use some more information. Can you send your system info and a screen recording of the issue? You can find your system info by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here. Thanks! ^CH

I managed to film both issues, and another one in a video.
00:10 - I'm unable to click on the three dots unless I close and reopen the photo
00:35 - something happened, and I was unable to change my sliders for the next mask
00:51 - switching to another mask and reopening the last mask shows settings applied to the mask that aren't there (I’ve also noticed this when creating a new mask right away). Closing and reopening the photo shows the real slider changes

I’ve noticed these issues as well. When creating a new mask, the sliders show adjustments taken from another mask, but those adjustments are not present in the mask (they’re a sort of a ghost). When I quit the masking panel and the photo edit, and reopen the photo and masks - they show normally.

I’ve also noticed some of the times not being able to select the three-dot menu on a mask (specifically, a submask, such as “subtract”) after creating it unless I go back to grid and reopen the photo and the masks.

Hey, @BRT² Photography & @Sheilakb29. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out.

While I attempt to recreate this, could you share the edits and the specific masks in your workflow that triggers this behavior? What troubleshooting steps have you tried? Does this image have any global adjustments applied to it prior to the masking workflow?

You can try resetting Lightroom as a primary step in troubleshooting this.

1 - While holding down the ALT + SHIFT keys, launch Lightroom from the Creative Cloud desktop app.

2 - Select 'Yes' when prompted to reset Preferences.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

@Sameer K I tried the reset at startup and the same issue exists. After doing some research it sounds like it’s a known issue that several users are experiencing, now whether or not Adobe with address it in the near future who knows. No matter how many times I use the UNDO feature and try to create a new mask it continues to do the same thing. Very frustrating and time consuming to reset all sliders after creating a new mask.

I am having SO MANY issues since the last update. I deleted it and re-installed it because of the issues I was having. Now I've just re-installed it and I'm having this issue. You are not alone, something is wonky.
