P: Lightroom v9.6 Exports Fujifilm FinePix S5000 RAF files with incorrect orientation

  • Application: Adobe Lightroom Desktop (cloud-based version, not Lightroom Classic)

  • OS: Windows 11 25H2

  • Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S5000 (released in 2003)

  • File format: Fujifilm RAF

  • Lightroom version: 9.6

Issue

When exporting RAF files from the Fujifilm FinePix S5000 directly to JPEG, Lightroom Desktop incorrectly transforms the image orientation.

The image appears correctly in the editing view, but the export preview already shows an incorrect orientation, including mirroring and rotation of a landscape image.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Import an original RAF file captured with the FinePix S5000 into Lightroom Desktop.

  2. Open the photo in the editing view.

  3. Export the photo as JPEG.

  4. Observe that the image orientation is incorrect in the export preview and resulting JPEG.

Additional testing

  • The issue occurs regardless of editing adjustments.

  • Enabling or disabling AI Denoise does not affect the issue.

  • Exporting the RAF as DNG produces a correctly oriented image.

  • Reimporting the exported DNG into Lightroom Desktop and exporting it as JPEG works correctly.

  • The same original RAF can be exported as JPEG correctly using Lightroom Classic.

Expected behavior

JPEG exports should preserve the correct image orientation shown in the editing view.

Actual behavior

Direct RAF-to-JPEG export produces an incorrectly mirrored and/or rotated image.

Workaround

Converting the RAF to DNG before exporting as JPEG avoids the issue.

Although this is a legacy camera, the RAF file can be processed successfully by both Lightroom applications. The issue appears to be specific to the direct RAF-to-JPEG export path in Lightroom Desktop.

Attached files:

DSCF0332.zip — Contains the original, unmodified RAF file from the Fujifilm FinePix S5000.

DSCF0332.jpg — JPEG exported directly from Lightroom Desktop, showing the incorrect image orientation.

The original RAF displays correctly in Lightroom's editing view, but its orientation changes in the export preview and exported JPEG.

Thanks for bringing this up. I can recreate this, and I’ve shared this with the team for review.
