P: Mobile: Switches camera profiles unexpectedly

Lightroom Mobile (2.41 iOS in my case) has problems with camera profiles in synced RAW files.

Once an image is being edited in LR Mobile, it switches to a different color profile (it looks like the uppermost profile in the list of profiles in LR on my desktop.

This is actually weird - is LR Mobile even aware of all the additional color profiles I have?

If the file is synced back to the desktop and then the profile is switched once again there, it will stay that way, even on LR Mobile.

But there obviously is an issue with camera profile handling in LR Mobile. And the bad part about it is that there's no way to set profiles in LR Mobile and if it switches to a profile that looks bad, ther's no way out until a desktop version of LR is in reach.

I have spent quite some time creating custom camera profiles using Adobe dng profile editor and a colour chart to give me accurate color with no twists etc
So to find that when I sync photos from lightroom desktop I have to use an included profile is a right pain
But worse is that when on the road and I import raw photos to the iPad I cannot change from Adobe standard
Please is there any way around this
I have shelled out for this iPad to do this work and it's proving that both the device and software isn't yet capable

Interesting! Did you try a recent import with the latest software versions?

Maybe my workaround can be of help for you?

The problem I see (described above) - difference in behavior of CR2 and DNG files - does not seem  to be affected by the age of metadata.

I think I am on to something here.

It seems with the most current versions of LR (CC 2015.8) and LR mobile (2.6.0) it has mostly to do with the age of metadata.

If I freshly import a file (Olympus E-M1 in my case for instance) then the camera profile sticks, even if I do edits in LR mobile.
If I go into a file that was imported in LR a while ago and I change the camera profile back and forth, LR mobile will no longer revert it to Adobe Standard.

This is where my guess comes from that refreshened metadata (by changing the profile back and forth) will lock in the profile and LR mobile won't change it.

I haven't tried if other changes in LR's the develop module will accomplish the same, but for now I will just bulk switch the camera profile for all oder files, hoping that this will lock the profile for LR mobile.

Apparently, LR Mobile (including Lightroom web) does not know about custom camera profiles that are applied to Canon CR2 raw files.   The mobile versions are always rendered in Adobe Standard.   This of course makes mobile editing tof CR2 files useless wrt color.   On the other hand, when you convert such a CR2 file to DNG and sync that version, the mobile versions are rendered correctly with the custom camera profile.

Such different behavior for CR2 and DNG surely is a bug.

This is a known issue. Custom profiles are not currently available to Lightroom mobile. A bug is in our system for this. For now, the workaround is not to use a custom camera profile for image you plan on syncing and editing.
