P: not allowing me to import duplicates, and this is getting extremely frustrating.

I have spent an hour trying to import a set of images that are already nested elsewhere in this session, but nothing is working. I've tried renaming the files, copying and pasting into new directories, changing XMP data, but no matter what LR is not allowing me to copy into a new directory if it exists anywhere else.
