There is a significant rendering discrepancy between the application preview and the final exported file, manifesting as erasure artifacts and excessive digital noise. When using the object removal tool, the in-app preview processes the background correctly, resulting in a uniform and clean finish. However, upon downloading the file, the image suffers extreme degradation, becoming riddled with digital noise (grain) and revealing a large, distinct dark patch in the exact area on the left side where the object was removed
Hi @bluej_ayway, Thank you for reporting this, and I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue! This is a known bug in which edits (especially object removal) can appear clean in the app preview but show noise and artifacts in the exported file. Our engineering team is actively working on a fix.
In the meantime, please try these workarounds:
Export at full resolution — select "Largest Available Dimensions" instead of a smaller size, with quality set to 100%.
Export as TIFF instead of JPG — this avoids compression artifacts that can amplify the noise.
Boost noise reduction before exporting — go to Detail → Noise Reduction and increase the Luminance and Color sliders.
Try a different removal tool — if you used Generative Remove, try Content-Aware Remove (or vice versa) to see if one produces a cleaner result.
If the issue persists, could you share:
Your Lightroom version and device/OS
Your export settings (format, quality, dimensions)
This will help us track down the root cause faster. Thanks for your patience! ^CH
