P: Brush roundness appears at 0% when opening at Options bar

When opening the Brush tool at the Options bar, roundness appears at 0% with any brush. It works when fixed, but as soon I open again, it returns to 0%. It's not the case when opened with the brush panel at the left, there it works fine.

Hey @stank86513642 , as @silk-m mentioned, the update just went out this morning, so give it some time and make sure you have Photoshop Version: 27.11.0 20260909.m.3669.

If you do update and still have this issue, please start a new thread, include your system info and any screenshots so the team can look into why you are not seeing the update.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Hi, everyone, this issue has been fixed. Please update to Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.11.0 20260909.m.3669 481f204  arm64 (beta, PublicBeta) to fix this.

Thanks,

Unfortunately it hasn’t been fixed in 27.11.0 Beta. The brush roundness still resets to 0% between every ctrl click on mac

I believe the version you are currently using is "27.11.0 20260902.m.3662 8045dad arm64 (beta)."
The release timing for the latest version varies by region.
If you wait a little while, you should be able to install the latest version, "27.11.0 20260909.m.3669."

As soon as you use the CTL key to alter the hardness of the brush, it reverts to this squashed shape every time.

WOW! The brush is a vital and standard given tool in any version of Photoshop. How did this get past Adobe testing—even if it’s a Beta? Quality Control is slipping at Adobe and big time for this very bad bug that should have never escaped!

I’m using Photoshop Beta 27.11 on a windows 11 Pro machine (64 bit). Have used the program quite a bit with no issues until this last update. Now I can’t adjust the brush type. I can change the size or angle, and go from hard to soft, and change opacity & flow, but any selection of a round brush defaults to elliptical.

I’m able to select specialty brushes like wet/dry media or special effects brushes. This seems to only affect the round brushes in the “General Brushes” folder.

Here is the step by step: 1. Select brush tool. 2. right click or use menu bar to open brush adjustment menu. 3. Select any round brush. 4. Instead of a being round, the brush is elliptical and is fully adjustable and normal (if you had wanted an elliptical brush in the first place) - can change size, angle, softness.

I’m finding this bug in using the brush both directly on the layer and on a layer mask. It affects the brush tool and other brush+ tools like history brush, adjustment layer brush, eraser, etc. The healing brush tool is unaffected - it doesn’t have the same type of menu as the other brushes.

The only workaround I’ve found is to either use the elliptical brush or switch to the non-beta version of photoshop.

At my company, there are three of us who use Photoshop, and we all have the same problem

I confirm, I have the same problem.

Brush presets become flattened when selected from the Tool Menu Bar in Photoshop Beta.

Selecting any brush preset from the Brushes panel loads the brush correctly. However, selecting the same preset from the brush picker in the Options Bar (when using the Brush Tool) causes the brush tip to become flattened, including standard round brushes and custom stamp brushes. The issue does not occur in the current release version of Photoshop. It appears that the brush tip roundness is incorrectly applied or retained when presets are loaded through the Options Bar.
