This no longer works... to create an oil painting - It still works in the non-beta version

  • Channels
  • Then “+” add layer
  • Edit>Fill>Brightness (B) 40% code 666666
  • Reselect RGB
  • Ctrl Click on the Gray layer
  • Hit OK for the error message
  • Generative fill “oil painting” or whatever

Thank you @shimmy049 for that update. Is anyone else still seeing this issue or has it been fixed for you?  Please let us know.

I had Photoshop version 25.11 installed (Windows) and installed each older version down to 25.7. Each version gave me the same error. Just a screen full of badly done watercolor flowers, not the watercolor effect on my original image as hoped. Really irritating. My version at work is newer (25.9) and still works.

I've tried to use past versions of Photoshop, and those don't work either. I'd recommend to anyone who uses this techinique, don't update the software. It breaks the effect completely. I am going to try to uninstall Photoshop completely, then download an older version to see if it works. Maybe it's a separate Ai engine that is updated independently? Please fix this, Adobe. This was one of the nicest additions, and too quickly taken away.

Latest updates seem tp allow this to work now. My old macros that I built
are working again!

tinah16737248,

The release version Photoshop 2024 (ps ver 25.11) still works with those directions, it's just the Photoshop public Beta versions that don't.

THank you for your reply.
I am a member of Creative Cloud, so my PS Beta version is 25.12.0

Do you know of a different video that might be able to help me with this?

Hello, I am attempting to apply a generative fill to make a drawing look like a oil painting. I am following these instructions: https://www.behance.net/gallery/172451101/Turn-Photos-into-Painterly-Art-with-Generative-Fill

(I have been using PS for my job for many many years)

Please see my screen shots to show what is happening. I am following the instructions on behance to a T.

Does anyone have any advice? I am frustrated.

Thank you

I hope this helps.
