P: Gradients don't work well with artboards

- If you're using a gradient layer with a mask, the gradient doesn't correctly fit to its bounds

- If you're using artboards and have content outside the bounds of the artboard, the gradient will size to that, rather than to the artboard

It's July 2024. It's crazy they haven't fixed this issue yet. So irritating.

I can't believe I've been dealing with this for so long!
I went looking for a possible solution again and by chance found this post, from, believe it or not, a year ago.

Nothing has been resolved with this issue, which is a big one...
The subscription is very expensive, but in my opinion, they are more focused on new features, AI, etc., rather than solving such a major problem. 🤔 🤔

This has been an issue for MONTHS if not YEARS. I Constantly have to copy my art boards into a new file and paste them, then proceed to export.

Let alone constantly trying to move them around to their original position only for them to not export correctly dispite in program display showing the gradient in the correct position.

I've resorted to just exporting the gradient I require in a new file, and pasting it into the project as an image.

Yes if you have to make changes to the gradient for something else you'll have to rexport it. But I'd advise getting all the ones you may need and putting them to one side of your project.

Adobe please fix this... Why are we all paying extortionate amount when its a basic ass feature GIMP or Canva can do with ease. Blows my mind.

I can't believe this still hasn't been fixed!🤬

I have created a document with 14 artboards to present design variations to a client. When I duplicate each artboard, the gradient copies over with it but positions itself randomly so I have to re-position them all. Then, when I go to export each image, the gradients mess up again and the exported image doesn't match the file. With so many people experiencing the same thing, why hasn't it been fixed? Surely copying a gradient from one artboard to another and retaining its position should be standard functionality?

@turkar Has there been any movement on this? As others have noted, the gradient issues are truly killing my workflow. I work in artboards with multiple gradients daily and everytime I open the file, they've moved into random positions, they don't export right and are just a headache.

I just ran into this bug after learning about artboards. Kind of makes me wish I didn't learn about artboards and had separate documents instead. A pain but at least this wasn't an issue. Still experiencing the problem after the suggested fixes of trying both align with layers and not aligning with layers. We're trying to create a series of options for the client to use and duplicating artboards. When duplicated the gradients don't move. Sometimes when I move (without duplicating) an artboard the gradients move and sometimes they don't. They were all created as gradient layers.

More like 5 years since the first post about this appeared 😕😕

We are aware of the issues of using live gradient tool with artboards and we are working on fixing them.
In the meantime, we'd like to note the following to help our users get unblocked from some of the issues mentioned in this thread -

- A fix for exporting artboards with gradients exists in the Pre-release version of Photoshop under the Tech Preview - ArtboardGradientExportFix. This will be available in next Beta and soon in the release versions.
- We advise users to create new gradient fill layers with the new live gradient tool. That makes sure "Align with layers" is checked OFF that gets rid of issue where the gradients on artboards shift when adding new artboards.
- When "Align with layers" is checked OFF, the gradient is not tied to a layer or an artboard. Which is why when moving the artboard, any gradient fill layer within that artboard will stay where they were. That is, gradient is not "stapled" to an arboard given the checkbox is OFF.
- If this does not help fix your workflow, please try using `Classic gradient` from the dropdown in options bar of the gradient tool. This is the legacy gradient tool and won't have the widget controls.

Workaround tip until this bug is finally fixed:
Convert the gradient to a smart object.
This way you can always convert it back to a layer object, but at least it will properly export the gradient.

Been having this problem for way to long now.
It's almost a year and still no fix?
