P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

I have exactly the same problem under Windows 11 pro. From Bridge beta, PS beta starts correctly.

PS Beta Uodate came through just now, ran the update, still can not edit in PS Beta or standard PS without a few minute wait, I then get the error message and then the iamge opens in PS Beta. It saves to LR, but any additional save As does not update in LR.

same for me windows10, LR classic latest, PS23 24,7 & PS beta 24 which I had been using exclusively, getting the "The file could not be edited etc" in Beta since update to 24. At the time Lightroom wasnt giving me the option to select PS23 as an external editor, even after uninstalling beta, but leaving ps23. LR showed no ps version available. Deleted preference file for LR & Beta, uninstalled all 3 via cloud, keeping preferences. Reinstalled. Still getting same error trying to edit in Beta, but at least I now have option to select PS23 as external editor in LR. So will stick to PS23 until next update I guess

That may be the case. Until now, whenever I opened an image from LR to PS it "showed" as a NEF file. However, after doing my edits to it and saving it as a different format (according to my needs), I could close the "NEF" file and it would not create a separate file in LR. Right now, every image I open saves a PSD copy of it. Then I have to go back in and delete all of them from LR.

Since last update to photoshop (beta), I can't now use the edit in Photoshop option.  When I do It loads photoshop beta but the photo fails to load. It then messages to say 'The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched'.  Click ok.  It then repeats this message. Click ok. Then the message 'Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at .......... Local file address....  for editing. It will not be opened'. Click Ok.  It then opens the file  but creates a another version on Lightroom classic..

This is only since today's update to PS Beta.  It is really annoying.

Can I roll back the beta to the previous version?  or how to I remove beta totally as it's not fit for purpose at this moment.

Photoshop Beta 25 - When exporting from Lrc to Ps Beta 25 - an error now shows in Lrc - then I click ok, but then it proceeds to import into Ps Beta 25. The eorror states Ps could not be launched - but it actually does launch.

On July 26 Wednesday I updated LRC and PS beta to the latest versions mentioned in Adobe CC.  Afterwards, LRC "edit in" stopped working properly.  I could not move back and forth between LRC and PS beta.  Spent an hour on the chat with Adobe Tech and he took over my computer and experienced the same issue.  Tried again today and chat tech was very responsive but had no solution other than to wait for Adobe team to figure out a fix.  For now, my only option was to regress to earlier versions, then I lost the ability to generate fill.  So, if anyone knows how to get "edit in" working again, sure would appreciate a suggestion.  My workflow isn't flowing right now.

@22tanguera

Photoshop has never been able to edit raw files, it has to use the Camera Raw plugin for this. Only digital cameras can save raw files. And LrC has never offered any other file formats for Edit in Photoshop than PSD and Tiff.

When you send a NEF file to Photoshop for editing, it will open silently in Camera Raw, where the edits from LrC will be applied to a new file, which then opens in Photoshop.

This new file is not any particular file type until you save it – it's just an array of pixels on your screen.

If I send a NEF file to PS 24.1.1 for editing, it will open in PS with a NEF extension, which is wrong and misleading.

Maybe this has changed in the beta (I don't use it), so that the extension will now be PSD or Tiff – according to what you have chosen in  Preferences > External editing in LrC.

Curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue as well. Not sure how long ago (must only be the last few days) when I try to take a photo from LRC to Photoshop, it tries to open Adobe Photoshop 2024 but my version is still labeled 2023 and I haven't seen any updates recently that has changed the version. I checked the external editing preference and it lists Adobe Photoshop 2024. Not sure what's going on with that. The error that appears on screen says "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

After this error appears it opens the file in Adobe Photoshop Beta and creates a TIFF file in LRC even though I haven't done anything yet. (Usually that wouldn't happen until after I edited the file in Photoshop). I CAN edit in Beta and all works out fine but curious why it's trying to open a version of Photoshop that I don't even have even though I'm as current as I can be with my updates.

Thanks!
