Critical Bug Report – Photoshop Beta 27.12 and 28.0: Move Tool Auto-Select Issue

In Photoshop Beta 27.11 / 27.12:

When using the Move Tool (V) with Auto-Select: Layer enabled, clicking once on an object correctly selects its corresponding layer, as expected.

However, when holding down Ctrl and dragging a rectangular selection box around multiple objects to select multiple layers, the layers are not selected as they should be.

This issue first appeared in version 27.12, and even after updating to the latest version, 28.0, the bug still has not been fixed.

Please investigate and fix this bug as soon as possible. This is a critical issue because it significantly disrupts the workflow, makes Photoshop more difficult to use, and negatively impacts productivity.

Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

    Hi,

since the last update the Move/Select Tool (V) doesn’t work properly anymore.

    1. Select Move Tool (V)
    2. Enable Auto-Select: Layer
    3. Drag marquee on empty canvas
Expected: layers inside marquee get selected

This is a crucial tool to help me with my layout and edit process. At the moment it is unusable and more and more people speak out about it.

    Please get it fixed asap.

    Thanks

It looks like I am not the only one. I am having the exact same problem since updating to the current Photoshop Beta version. It really is frustrating.

I would appreciate a fast response from the support team.

Title: Photoshop Beta — Ctrl-drag with Move Tool does not select layers

    Photoshop Beta version: 27.12.0 20261005.m.3700 e7185eb x64 (beta, PublicBeta)
    Operating system: Windows 11
    Auto-Select checkbox: OFF
    Auto-Select target: Layer

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Open a document containing multiple visible layers.

    2. Select the Move Tool (V).

    3. Set the Auto-Select target to Layer and leave the Auto-Select checkbox OFF.

    4. Hold Ctrl and click-drag from an empty area of the canvas to draw a selection box around several layer objects.

    5. Check the selection in the Layers panel.

    Expected result:
The layers inside the selection box should be selected.

    Actual result:
The layers are not selected when I perform this action.

This interrupts my wedding album layout workflow. Please investigate this behavior.
