P: Photoshop Beta Generate Image only produces a black images.

Hello everybody

So, the latest Photoshop Beta 25.9 m.2603 update which introduced the Generate Image and Reference Image features is not working for me. I'm on Windows 10 and a high-end PC by the way.

Whenever I use the Generate Image feature, I get a black layer as a result.

No matter what options I choose or what the prompt is.

Even if I choose no options at all.

It simply doesn't work. I just get 3 black options to choose from (see attached screenshot).

Needs to be fixed asap.

Thank you.

My team and I use SuperPNG as well. This plugin is still very common in the video game industry as it's the best way to save into the alpha channel without having to use a TGA or other file formats that have a much larger file size than a PNG.

Hopefully, Adobe will fix whatever issue is causing this to be incompatible with the AI generation tools.

I'm really glad I could help!

There are certainly not many users who still have this ancient plug-in on their computer, which is probably why only a few were affected.
The SHIFT key trick worked for me because I installed all my third party filters under “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins”. By removing the entries piece by piece, only 'SuperPNG.8bi' remained as a rogue in the “File Formats” folder ;-).

WOW @bernd_0449 YOU SAVED THE DAY!

It was indeed the SuperPNG plugin causing the issue. I can't believe it, after 9 months I've finally been able to actually use the Generate Image feature.

I might be wrong but I believe that since the SuperPNG plugin is a File>Save As plugin (and not a Filter), Photoshop still loads with it even after using the Shift Key trick, that's why it kept producing black textures when launching PS without 3rd Party Plugins (again, I could be wrong).

I honestly hope and wish Adobe can come up with their own (better and improved) PNG and DDS plugins so that we don't have to use SuperPNG and/or Intel's or Nvidia's Plugins for DDS.

Thank you @bernd_0449 !

I do have that SuperPNG Plugin as well.

I'll try to remove it now and report back.

The strange thing is though, I've launched both PS versions using the Shift key trick you mentioned in this thread so that it launches without any Third Party Plugins, plenty of times, and I've always gotten the same results when using Generate Image (black results).

@bernd_0449 are you talking about a third party plugin? This one perhaps:
https://fnordware.blogspot.com/2014/06/superpng-25.html

Ps beta does not support third party plugins so if this is the case it would be up to the maker of this plugin to update or test for this issue.

It is curious that you also saw the three black returns of a AI generation, but not sure they are related.  Does this plugin work with Ps release version without issue?

Thanks,

It may not help the original questioner, but it may be useful for other users.

In my case, the current version 26.0 caused exactly the same three black image frames (I had never tried Image AI with the previous versions!). After many attempts, I found out that the file format plug-in ‘SuperPNG.8bi’ from 2014 was causing the conflict with Firefly. Since Flux produces PNG files, Photoshop may be rendering in the same format and failing with two PNG formats installed at the same time. After removing ‘SuperPNG.8bi’ everything works fine now!

I wanted to update this:
I'm still having the same problem, with both Photoshop versions (Beta and Retail). Both up-to-date.

I even upgraded my Windows 10 version to the latest one.

I tried launching Photoshop (both versions) without plugins.

I don't know what else to do.

Hi @Fede_OK

Each app, Ps and Ps beta have seperate Plugins folders which are unique to each app... BUT, your 3rd party plugins are available to both apps via your CCD app.

So, if you launch Ps and hold the Shift key, you will not load any 3rd party apps.  If you open Ps beta, all plugins will load as normal if you do NOT hold the Sift key.

Hey Cory

Is there any way to have the Photoshop Final/Retail version load WITHOUT any of my custom installed plugins but have the Beta version load with them? Or viceversa?.
