P: PS Beta causing Major Problems

Hi

I installed the PS Beta to look at the new Live gradient. After having a look I decided to uninstall as it seemed to conflict with PS 24 which sometimes did not open.

After I uninstalled the Beta version, via CC Desktop, LRC no longer seems to recognise PS and the edit in PS option is greyed out. I now find that I cannot open the latest version (24) of PS at all.

I'm guessing that uninstalling PS and reinstalling might help but I have so many plugins, actions etc. that I'm worried what will happen to those if I do that.

I've also installed PS 23.5.2 in the hope that would help but that does not open either.

The upshot is that PS Beta has caused so significant problems and I have effectively lost the use of PS.

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

regards

A further update since the installation of 24.0.1.

After using for some time I have not seen any issues of the sort I had experienced previously, including the situation where I had to restart my PC.

So, at the moment at least, it seems that my problems are resolved. It would have been good to have known precisely what the problem and solutuion was but I'm not complaiaing as, assumming I do not see a reoccurence, all is well.

Many thanks for the responses.

Hi

I thought that I would give an update on this problem as it has changed since PS24.0.1.

  • If I now open PS directly ( i.e. not via LRc) I see the expected behaviour and can close/open PS as many times as I like with no problems and without needing to remove tasks in Windows Task Manager.
  • However, if I open PS from within LRc via "edit in" and then close PS I see a variation on the original problem. Specifically I can not reopen PS, either via LRc or directly, as it simply will not open. The difference is that there is no visible task in Task Manager which I can delete. In this case the only way to resolve the problem is to restart the PC which is clearly far from ideal.

Clearly, the best way around this is to leave PS open which is fine most of the time but not always and should not be required.

Not sure if this is a useful addition towarsd a solution but it is important as the behaviour has changed.

Thanks Cory. Appreciate that the team is aware and investigating. If you need me to do anything to create, say, log or dump files I'm happy to assist in whatever way I can.

Hi Cory

Any updates on a fix for my "left over task" problem. I have deliberately not fiddled anymore lest I make things worse so I am in your hands at the moment.

cheers

Hi Pete

I hadn't but I have now and it does point to PS2023. I had fixed that but uninstalling PS2023 and then reinstalling but this is clearly more elegant.

cheers

Hi @Grumpy Hec,

Curious if you had a chance to try installing and using the plugin I posted about above?

That might resolve this for you in the near term as the team works on another solution.

Let us know.

PG

Hi

I have just run the CC Uninstall process and reinstalled CC to see if that resolved the problem of the left over PS process.

Sadly the problem remains. To recap the problem is that whenever I run PS since installing PS Beta, which is now removed by the way, and then close it, a task is left running which prevents reopening PS. I have to end the task via Windows task manager which then enables opening PS in the normal way. I have a DMP file if you think that would be helpful but it is rather large ( approx. 6,000,000 KB ) so some form of transfer application would have to be used .

Looking at the leftover task it shows no disk activity or CPU. It does hold RAM however with the amount varying each time but ranging from 1.5GB up to a max I have seen of 4GB. It does, therefore, appear to be behaving like a memory leak. As I have 48GB of RAM there is always a large amount of memory freely availables so it does not seem to be a problem of insufficient RAM.

I have no idea of how to proceed from here. The only thing I have not yet tried is to run the CC cleanup process but I thought I'd report back with an update before going down that route.

cheers
