Click and drag makes the software freeze

Reposting this because my first post was deleted.

Hi I downgraded to Photoshop 27.6 because on 27.7 I experienced Photoshop freezing when I tried to drag a layer from one file to another… I actually had to shut down Photoshop using task manager, losing my unsaved work in the process. The problem seems to happen less on 27.6 while it happened 3 times in a morning’s work on 27.7.

Unfortunately you haven't given us any information about your system. Therefore, all proposed solutions are a look into the crystal ball.

Please decribe your issure more detailed.

What you’re trying to do? Describe the steps you’re doing so we can try to reproduce.

What has been changed on your system before the error occur?

Try to reset the Photoshop preferences:

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset:

If this doesn’t help provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into a text file and attach it to your next forum post.

@AxelMatt @Ged_Traynor Hi, I copied/pasted my system info in the last discussion and it got deleted afterwards so I fearthat if i do that again somebody will delete this discussion, too.

What I’m trying to do : I have 2 open files (600 ppp, CMYB) and i want to drag one layer by clicking on it in the layer menu fome one to the other… A common task. And when I do, Photoshop stops working. No error message, just the software becoming unresponsive (i can’t even close the open files), that’s why i have to shut it down through task manager.

I haven’t tried resetting preferences yet but I have to work so I don’t want to work hours with preferences reset and trying to witness the problem again before I put my settings back.

Nothing changed on my system except the usual windows 11 updates.

@jeromea13244388 I can understand that you’re angry about the deletion of your former post. I don’t know why this has happened. But, sorry for that.

I’ve tried it on my machine and it worked as it should.

If the reset of the preferences doesn’t help we need the detailed informations about your system. Without these infos all proposed solutions are “a look into the crystal ball”.
