Ctrl Z Doesn't Work After Opening A File Within the "Recent" Section Of The Home Page

I’m using Photoshop v 27.9.1 on my Windows 11 Pro laptop.

I noticed yesterday that when I open a file via the “Recent” section of Photoshop’s Homepage, I cannot use Undo via Ctrl Z. I can only get Ctrl Z to work if I: minimize / maximize Photoshop, tab to another program and back to Photoshop, or undock and redock file tab.

It’s almost like the Ctrl Z keyboard command doesn’t relate it’s to Photoshop unless I do those things. Possibly due to my file being a tab? Ctrl Z works no matter how I open the file if I have the file set to show as a window first instead of a tab.

The only way I can get Ctrl Z to work consitently as a tab now is by opening a file via “File, Open / Open Recent” or starting a whole new file to work on.

This issue happens more times than it doesn’t now. There were sometimes when I opened a file via the recent section of the home page and Ctrl Z worked right when I went to use it. But it doesn’t work without my work arounds most of the time.

Other shortcuts that use Ctrl work no matter what. And Ctrl Z works on all my other programs without any work arounds.

I tried uninstalling Photoshop, deleting it’s related folders and files in Programs and Appdata (one’s named specifically Photoshop because I didn’t want to accidently delete something related to the Creative Cloud).

I feel this is a bug with this version of Photoshop specifically because I did not run into this problem before.

Please let me know if this can be looked at and fixed for a future version of Photoshop.

You have install an outdated version of the graphic device driver. Goto NVidia’s website, search for the recent Studio version for your type of the graphic card, download and install the driver. Then check.

The second point: you have buldin a CPU with an internal graphic processor. This internal GPU can sometimes caused several issues. Try to disable the processor internal graphic card.

Open the Windows Device Manager, right-click the card's name and choose Disable.

Without any information about your system all proposed solutions are guesswork

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Try to reset the Photoshop preferences: https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset: https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

If this doesn’t help, then try to manually removing the preferences files. This is the most complete method for restoring to the default state. The manual method ensures all preferences which may be causing a problem and prevents Photoshop form loading.

Please follow the steps below:

Quit Photoshop.
Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder.
MacOS: …Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Windows: …Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Note: The User Library folder is hidden by default. To access the content in the hidden folders see here:
MacOS: Access hidden macOS library files
Windows: Show hidden files, folders, and filename extensions in Windows
Drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to a safe place to a backup your settings
Open Photoshop.

New preferences files with the default settings will be created automatically.

Installed TWAIN devices: NONE

I’ve done alll those steps before submitting my original bug report post. I’ve even done a full uninstall of photoshop, deleted any rement file like the one in Appdata/Roaming, and reinstalled photoshop. None of that resolved my issuue unfortunately. I feel this might be caused by the current photoshop version since I didn’t run into this issue before. However, this issue did just happen 2 days ago, and I’ve installed the latest version of photoshop before that day.
