Performing a "Quick Export" as PNG causes macOS Finder to freeze and become unresponsive when attempting to view the file preview, subsequently hanging the Photoshop application.

Adobe Photoshop 2026

macOS Tahoe 26.3.1

  • Mac Studio (2022)

  • Apple M1 Max

  • 64 GB

  • Macintosh HD

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open a document in Photoshop.

  2. Trigger a "Quick Export" as PNG to a chosen directory (local or server).

  3. Immediately switch to Finder and attempt to view the file preview of the newly saved PNG.

  4. Observe macOS Finder freeze and become unresponsive.

  5. Finder cannot be successfully force-relaunched.

  6. Photoshop enters a "frozen" state, preventing successful backup saves even after a force quit.

Result: macOS Finder freezes immediately upon attempting to preview the file, causing a system-level hang that traps both Finder and Photoshop, preventing backup/recovery. No error message is displayed; the system simply stops responding to Finder actions and only way to make it work is force restarting the system.

  • This issue occurs regardless of the save destination (Desktop or local server).

  • The hang is consistently triggered by the act of navigating to the file in Finder to view the preview immediately after the export.
