Open as Layers In Photoshop Slow

I’ve reported this already in “Bug Reports” and my post was deleted with no resolution and no communication. I’ve reposted there and now looking for help here!

When “opening as layers in photoshop” the images are very slow to load in PS 27.8 vs. 27.7. This problem is confirmed by several other users I know. What used to take 11 seconds now takes 17 seconds. There’s a new behavior where each of the layers “flashes” up on screen for a split second before the loading actually starts and it takes significantly longer than it used. Downgrading to 27.7 restores correct (fast) functionality.

Why would my bug report get deleted and if there’s a bug then, how are we supposed to report it so that Adobe will address it? Thanks

I've also noticed this gets much slower with lots of high-resolution files. If possible, try testing with a smaller batch first to see if it's the file count or file size causing the slowdown. That can help narrow down whether it's a system limitation or something else.

Happening to me too. The amount of “flashes” depends on how many images are being opened. So if you select 5 images in LR and “open as layers in photoshop,” there will be 5 flashes before the images actually start to load. I uninstalled, deleted preferences, re-installed and the issue is still present.

Here is a real world example of the issue, comparing PS 27.8 and 27.7. Notice the extra step of the images “flashing” briefly on screen during the first example that are absent in the second.

From which othre application you try “Open as layers in Photoshop”?, Lightroom (Classic)?

I don’t see any glaring slowness on my system.

We’re also need more informations about your system. Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into a text file and attach it to your next forum post.

Thanks for your response. In my actual bug report, I did offer info about my system. I did not do so here though, you are correct. Windows 11 (updated) i9-13900k, Nvidia 4080 (updated). In my mind, I know that 27.7 did not have this issue and that others are experiencing the same thing, so I assume the issue is within Photoshop an actual bug, not a system problem or user error. Yes, “open from layers in Photoshop” is from Lightroom Classic. You probably would not notice any “glaring slowness” unless you do multi-layer composite work on a daily basis. Here is a real life example of the both versions of Photoshop opening the same images, identical conditions:

@shayb68441784 I’ve take a closer look and I also see the flickering. I use this “open as layers” function very rarely and so I can't say anything about performace.

It seems that it could be a issue in the nesw Photoshop version.

When “opening as layers in photoshop” the images are very slow to load in PS 27.8 vs. 27.7. Problem is confirmed by several other users I know. What used to take 11 seconds now takes 17 seconds. There’s a new behavior where each of the layers “flashes” up on screen for a split second before the loading actually starts and it takes much longer. Downgrading to 27.7 restores correct (fast) functionality. I’ve reported this already and my post was deleted with no resolution and no communication. Why? This is critical, please communicate and please fix! Windows 11 (updated) i9-13900k, Nvidia 4080 (updated)
