P: Alt-Clicking arrows next to groups zooms to the group

Due to the new feature to zoom to a layer's contents in Photoshop v21.0.0, it now conflicts with the feature to auto-collapse or expand all of a group's folders by Alt-Clicking on the arrow next to the folder icon. Now, it still does the action, but while zooming into the group at the same time. I like the new feature, but it should only work when alt-clicking on any other part of the layer.
This zoom feature also always stacked like it does now on all layers when the arrow next to Artboard layers were alt-clicked in previous versions. It would zoom and collapse layers under it.

Yeah well as long as Adobe is not happy with this solution and keeps it this way 😞

the update makes it so that you can alt click the ARROWS of folders, but doesn't fix clicking anywhere else in the layer. We're getting closer!

Yes, but that creates the same kind tedious work. Because if you don't hold alt then the shape is reversed and you have to manually go in and select the shape and reverse it. So it becomes even more cumbersome actually than zooming out. when I want hard shape masks for art I do this many times over a drawing. And either zooming out all the time OR having to reverse the shape both makes working very annoying.

Oh I see. I've never done this before, but it seems like it's because of the part where alt is held while over the layer. It doesn't have to be the thumbnail. Just Ctrl-dragging gets the mask over there without the zoom, but you're left with a color fill layer.

No I don't mean getting a bit map selection. I mean using the actual shape as a mask. FOr this you need to make a shape layer and ctrl+alt drag the shape over onto the bitmap layer, then it stays a vector. This cant be replaced by what you are suggesting. This also work on groups, but it also does auto zoom into the shape of the vector

Do you mean to do what's described in the article below?
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/revealing-layers-clipping-masks.html

Otherwise, you're saying you're holding alt and ctrl to get the selection of a shape? This is supposed to subtract from selection (holding alt), which is where the issue is right now. When you have no selection, just holding ctrl is all you need to when you click on a layer thumbnail to get its selection.

I dont understand what you mean? I want to transfer a shape from a shape layer to another layer and use it as a clipping mask. Is there another way to do this?

Subtracting selections from the layer thumbnails is not fixed in the latest version. What you're describing sounds like there was in issue with using a layer as a clipping mask (when you alt-click between layers). Maybe clipping masks can help in your workflow in the meantime?

I'm still having this issue after 21.0.2. Just make one shape layer and one regular and use alt+ctrl and add the shape layer as a mask, it will auto zoom into the shape size. I hope you don't mark this bug as fixed yet....

It did not fix it for me, so doesn't seem fixed to me.
