P: As of Photoshop (v24.4.1) the curves adjustment layer is very laggy and unresponsive!!

As of the latest version of Photoshop (v24.4.1), the curves adjustment layer is very laggy and unresponsive -- especially when using a stylus. It's extremely frustrating. What happens is when I click to add a point on the 'graph' it's serverly delayed and doesn't add a point. Normally I can immedietly click and drag the point to where I need, but when I try this now nothing happens because it won't make the point. Then it finally makes the point and lags really far behind where I adjust it to be. Every time I try moving any points it's super laggy and terrible. It's not my computer either. I have a ridiculously good computer.

I've restarted Photoshop and my computer. No dice. This is a major issue and needs to be fixed.

So is everyone seeing this on Win 11 on an Intel PC, using Win Ink?

@tom attix @droquis Thanks for replying, droquis. I'm in the same boat as you -- I've been using Windos Ink for a long time now without issue. My Wacom driver is also up-to-date. I can't wait for a fix, this has been extremely difficult to deal with.

Thanks @Delkin525 that's what I needed to know.

Just chiming in here to say that I've been actively following this thread, and have the same issues as described by @Delkin525 . For all curves adjustments, I have to switch to my mouse because of how laggy it is with the stylus. One or two updates ago, the stylus started working without lagging for adjusting a control point, but if you try to use it to add one, it pauses for 5-10 seconds, or until you at least move the mouse. It's unbelievably frustrating. To answer @tom attix question for my case, my Cintiq has the lastest drivers from Wacom, Windows Ink is enabled, and all of the old PSUserConfig files setting it to use WinTab have been deleted. Disabling GPU compositing has had no effect. If I can answer any questions to help move this issue along, please let me know.

@Delkin525 Are you using Windows Ink or the Wacom driver?

Thanks @Delkin525 ,

That info really helps us.  I've updated the team regarding your succinct description.  I appreciate you trying to video record it.

@Andrew Sender Another update: This issue is ONLY present when using a stylus (I'm using a Wacom Intuos Pro). If I use my mouse everything works as expected...

Hey Andrew, @Andrew Sender

I tried turning off GPU Compositing and it didn't change anything. However I have more info about this issue. Whatever they did in this version did *slightly* address the issue, but it's still in need of a serious fix. I tried to take a video of this, but when the glitch occurs it freezes Photoshop and the screen recorder wasn't able to capture Photoshop normally when this happened. I'll explain the issue below...

Let's say I'm using a curves adjustment layer. If the curve already has points on it I can move them without issue, without lag (such as the top left and bottom right curves that are there by default). However, when I try to place new points whether by tapping near the line or on the line, nothing happens. It effectively freezes. I can tap in multiple places, which would create multiple points, and nothing will happen. Here's the thing though -- nothing happens until the mouse cursor LEAVES the "Properties" tab. As soon as my mouse cursor leaves that small curves adjustment later properties window the points appear and update. If I had place multiple points they just all magically appear one after another in a laggy weird way. Once they're there though, I can move them with no issue and no lag. Before their attempted fix lag would be experienced the entire way through, even with dragging points that were already there. No that feels better but there's still the massive issue that whenever you try to place poitns nothing happens until you move your cursor off the window.

Does this make sense to you? Could you relay this to the team? I tried to explain it as sucintly as possible. I had tried to make a recording for you, but when the points don't appear it causes Photoshop to freeze in the eyes of the screen recorder.

Thanks!

Hi @Delkin525 ,

I'm sorry to hear this issue persists. The engineering team believes they provided a fix to version 24.6.  It sounds like this fix did not help you.  So I notified the team again to keep looking into this issue.

If you haven't downgraded to 24.3 yet, have you tried disabling Preferences -> Performance -> (GPU) Advanced Settings ... -> GPU Compositing?

Again, we're sorry for the issue you're experiencing.  I will contact support to see if there's something we can do.

Sincerely,

Andrew

For me the latest update is a clear improvment versus 24.5 and 24.4. It is a bit worse than 24.3 but I can tell is fully operational.
